Windows 7 admins are calling this week’s Patch Tuesday a disaster: new updates are not only bricking Windows 7 devices with a “Not Genuine” Windows license error, but there’s also a bug blocking administrator access to remote shares on Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7. “Once again, Microsoft has released patches and updates that have broken parts of Windows.”

While it was prudent to patch quickly, admins discovered the update tripped up network shares over the SMBv2 file-sharing protocol. Born figured the security-only update might dodge the bugs, but he discovered that it caused the same issues. Regarding the "Not Genuine" Windows 7 error, Microsoft confirms that "some users are reporting the KMS Activation error, 'Not Genuine,' 0xc004f200 on Windows 7 devices."

And here I told a windows 7 computer at work to restart and install its updates before I left on Friday. Wonder if it is dead....

They really need to find a good balance between rushing important security issues when needed however testing other a little bit more first.

    that's a nice windows 7 pc you've got there.

shame if someone were to bust networking and make it not genuine.

Hehe things just don't go the way of MS these days :D so much so i had to see if they hired in some Danish brass for the executive hallways, but that don't seem to be it.
But they sure are making a lot of BS these days i can relate to as a Dane.

None of this would have happened if people had upgraded to windows 10 like microsoft wanted them to do

8.1 is pretty sweet as far as windows go

Why the fuck WOULD it be? that's just silly. trying to make some weird ass conspiracy about MS doing this on purpose, makes them look like they actually know what they are doing!

    perfect example of Hanlon's razor.

Hmmm, wonder if this is why my samba share on W7 magically became inaccessible from Ubuntu a few days ago...

Yet another reason why it makes sense to hold off on updating these days to see what happens in the first week or so. A Win7 Home on one of my systems flashes daily that it has new updates to download since Tuesday.

I have a windows 7 machine that randomly says it's not genuine. However, if i check activation it says it's ok. If I go online to resolve it, it says it's ok.

My company's poor IT staff is working through this issue on over 900 deployed Win7Enterprise workstations at my plant... kinda funny to watch from the outside, but it was handled pretty quick

This happened to a client of ours a few days ago. Had to roll back the patch, shares were completely broken for no apparent reason.

One of the fellow techs at my organization came across this article this morning after I introduced him to [H] last week (I was puzzled by this revelation too) and he was able to fix a remote computer which has been affected by this bug for the last few days. Thanks for the link g-money and score 1 for [H]!

Thanks Megalith for posting this as I haven't heard of it yet.

Thanks for that link. As an admin at my job we do have one workstation still running 7 since the software on it hasn't been optimized for 10 yet. Nice to know when I get in this morning that if it's down I do have a work around. :)

Had this issue last thursday with a client
They share files between two machines.
    Latest update killed that.
Removed it and foolishly thought considering the amount of web coverage I've seen about it, that MS would have pulled the update.
Nope...it installed again. Hid it the second time

It's gets better, it's running on 1GB and the C2D is stuck running at 1GHZ, not ramping up to 1.6, and I don't know why it's stuck.

Pretty much sums up every corporation! lol

If the debate was if its on purpose, and the argument is that they would not be amoral enough to do so. Then yes it has bearings to show that the amoral value is there.
That you don't think its true is different though
