Microsoft's about turn: Windows 7 tech testers will get free copy of OS

The important aspect of this that most people are missing is that this "free copy" of Windows 7 Ultimate is only going out to those very particular individuals who were invited to take part in the technical beta process - it doesn't apply to those persons not part of the Microsoft beta program, doesn't apply to casual downloaders of Beta 1 or the Release Candidate, etc.

The actual number of people invited to the technical beta program for Windows 7 is pretty small... so, don't get your hopes up, folks... ;)

Those who will get a free copy already know it.

Still good news to hear. It was kinda surprising and disappointing to hear that, initially, free copies weren't going to be provided to the invited Beta testers. It's pleasing to hear that that silly (and quite discouteous) decision has been overturned and that the decent thing is gonna be done!
