Microsoft Surface Pro Now on Display in Some Retail Stores

It'd probably be pretty light on the hardware which might extend battery life. I'd be sorta worried about getting driver support for Surface-specific hardware though. It'd be a fun project later when there are cheap second had Surface Pros around.

That's the part that blew me away, but i could never get an accurate battery reading :(. Was between ten and sixteen odd hours. The os kept it throttled at around 900Mhz as well

I know there is http://www.bluestacks.com/ which sounds interesting but I've never tried it myself.

I'm currently running this on a number of devices. Does require some horsepower to run well though on a fast enough machine it's faster than using a lot of Android devices natively. A little flaky and stuck at Android 2.2 I think. There's also that new one from China that slips my mind right now.

I had to look up Lenovo Helix to see what you guys were talking about. Core i7 at 10 hours? Color me interested!

I wonder how much it'll go for.

Except that requires using two devices for testing: one for development and one for testing. Using something like the Surface Pro allows you to use one.
Right, but you generally have some sort of development machine already. It's significantly cheaper to invest in a touch display for an existing development machine than it would be to invest in an entirely new machine.

Yet another option if that is what one wants. Maybe even a better option that using a ULV Core device to develop on as a powerful desktop eve with emulation can actually run faster than lots Android devices natively.

I think last I checked it was around $1,400 to start.

Not sure the Pro's will ever become dirt cheap even secondhand but wouldnt be surprised if we see an HP touchpad-esque $99 blowout of the RT's at some point .

I definitely want to see what the Helix is about before getting the Surface Pro. I was kind of partial to the folding keyboard dock design before using such a design with 8 and the after getting the keyboard dock for my Samsung 500T I think this is my form factor of choice for a Windows 8. The Surface keyboard covers and stand are nice but they really don't convert the device to a laptop as well as a folding dock I think.

Well damnit.

A non-issue since I get all of my laptops and tablets from work ;-)

I see it as one of those things that you should get if it can improve productivity. It has to pay for itself in some way.
