Nope and stop shoving your crusade down everyone's throat.
Windows 10 lists, Linux fails by completely capsizing. (Could not care less either way.) I know, I am a MS fanboy because I am not willing to hit my head on the wall of Linux everyday. I use something, it works and I move on.
Windows 10 is a dumpster fire.
Maybe they should have paid for some QA rather than astroturfing social media for volunteers...
ManofGod said nothing of the sort except shove it where the sun does not shine...………. Oh well, guess you cannot handle the facts jack. Odd dumpster fire that I get home, computers work, I go to work, computers work and they are running Windows 10. Not my fault I have far more experience then you seem too and do not go on a crusade to shove down peoples throats, all the damn time. Looks like a fake news thing you got going on there since you are quoting something that was never said.
Edit: Looks like your computer is capsizing, I will leave you to guess what with.....
Oh, and this news is already quite old but hey, what does any of you Linux pundits care, you would never use a Surface Book 2.
I've got 1809 on all of my machines, no issues here.
Exactly! There are issues, they need to be resolved, MS absolutely needs to do much better than they are. That said, I must be saying it is the Best ever with zero problems because I am not favoring the Linux...…..
I'm so happy I never changed from windows 7 to 10. I already have a replacement pc ready with windows 8.1 with classic shell. Not interested in 10 until they make some radical changes which I doubt will happen.
1703 > 1709. Peasant.
I’ve turned off all updates for the foreseeable future. MS needs to seriously get it together.
Seems like I've been stuck at 1709 due to having downgraded a few times to it, now it doesn't force any new builds on me either unless I manually upgrade. Haven't manually turned off updates at least. Guess that's just a good thing, at least this build has been working very well for me, newer builds I did have a few stuff I disliked so I jumped back. With all the recent issues I see no interest in updating the build either.
Okay, this patching issue must be pretty bad. I think that's the first time I've ever seen you make a post critical of Microsoft about anything.
That's a bit like killing a fly with a nuke though?!
Wow. I never hit my head on any Linux wall. Wish I could say the same about Windows 10.
Honestly, the updating process under Linux is damn near perfect.
Nope, I just do not waste my time coming on a forum and bang the hate drum and Linux Crusade crap 24 x 7 whenever a MS or Windows thread is even hinted at. (They know who they are though.) I have no issues on my systems but it is always good to stay informed regardless of what is in use, you know, to know how to fix things when they do go south.
Why do you keep multi-posting with anti-Linux rants? That doesn't help anybody. It almost seems like you have an agenda.
Windows 10 is a dumpster fire and desktop Linux is now a viable alternative. This isn't a Windows support forum. With stories about serious Windows 10 failures coming out every week why shouldn't we be discussing and supporting better options?
Why are you referring to yourself in the third-person? Did you forget to login with one of your alternate accounts?
Since I've had W10, I've had to reformat twice after an update due to corrupted windows files. My computer would not get past the bios and all efforts to restore and recover including booting into safe mode did not work. The worst part was I had 6 TB of games installed. Now I only install games I play...
Well, you say "nope", but have you literally ever made another post where you were critical of Microsoft? I'm dead serious, you have thousands of posts, I've NEVER seen one until this thread. I get that you like Windows and Microsoft products, but to never ACKNOWLEDGE problems of something you like is pure tribalism identity mentality and does a disservice for looking at something honestly. On the contrary, the fact that you ARE an avid user of MS products all but guarantees you'll run into frustrations and shortcomings eventually that a more casual user might miss. That's true of pretty much any OS or complex piece of software.
My issue is this, the windows 10 update system is really flawed, 6 months is way too short between major updates, automatic reboots, no thank you.
Yet I have done the right action, I have rejected the product and use windows 8.1
So my question is why are you guys all still on windows 10? send the message and ditch the product.
Over time there has been a few things introduced to win10, I would like but none of them are showstoppers.
Have a seperate data partition so when you reinstall the OS in future you can keep it intact. Dont just put all 6TB on the C: drive.
8.1 with the telemetry KB trojans blocked and a start menu replacement = best of both worlds, since it has the kernel and scheduler improvements that were pushed forward to 10, but without all the crapware of 10 and unwanted non-security updates.
If not for the ability to rip all of 10's bloat out of the install ISO with MSMG toolkit, I'd absolutely still be running 8.1.
If it keeps my machine useable.....
Dumpster fire or not, I run windows because the apps I want to run also only run on it. I'm glad Linux is sufficient for your needs today; for quite a few people it isn't. And until that changes most desktop users will be on something other than Linux.
I don't agree with this. Most use Windows as that was what was on the device when they bought it.
All my games and other programs were installed on separate hard drives D (4TB), E (4TB) and F (6TB) Drives. Actually it was 10 TB of games that were installed not 6. When I reformatted some games and programs launched and others didn't. I think some games and programs (especially older locally installed games using DVD) use the C Drive to install miscellaneous files regardless of which drive you install the game so it broke a path. Nevertheless, losing everything on C Drive broke a lot of things installed on other drives so your suggestion works in some cases and doesn't in others... I decided to start over... It was extremely discouraging moment for PC gaming and me... Before the issue I was happy to have all my games installed on one system ready to go but its not worth it anymore...
Backups. Do them. MS doesn't really offer a good bare metal solution, but Veam offers an awesome one that's free: https://www.veeam.com/windows-endpoint-server-backup-free.html
I'm not so salty about Microsoft eliminating the Essentials server role once I discovered Veam's free workstation backup.
Thanks for that software info. +1
Perhaps they should try Flex Seal, seems to work on their controllers.
Why not just use the backup solution built into Windows 10? It actually works quite well.
To get what Veeam does you have to use image and file history together, which requires two disks and a lot more finessing. Veeam is a lot more streamlined and with backups, simplicity rules. The simpler they are the more likely they are to be done and most importantly, work when you need them.
do you really thing that ALL of the telemetry/spyware is actually gone with these 3rd party tools?...I do my best to strip away a lot of the extra BS during a fresh install (I have an install order list I follow each time) but no way do I think that everything is gone...you just have to accept that some of it will get through
Update and shutdown hope my computer works tomorrow. Never worry about my fedora box. Stays up for months. Power failures catch it. That’s about it. The worst that gets is an fack.
The problem is their update schedule. They sort of need to delay the updates to once per year. Not sure why they want to release big updates every 6 months. Its sort of rediculous. Since they started doing this update schedule there have been so many issues. I think they need to pretty much delay it to once a year instead of pushing 2 big updates every year.
I honestly haven't had any issues with the 1809 update but I do believe they need to get their shit together and test it for another 6 months or so and then release it.
