Microsoft Office installer launches with Open Office

Whenever I try to open a word document (which is associated with OpenOffice writer, Office 2003 Setup attempts to install something. It fails because I deleted the installation files (out of the office suite I only installed PP and Excel). Why is this happening?

When Setup runs, what does it try to install? (What does it say in the window)

it´s Microsoft´s way to tell you: "buy my stuff, ditch that other crap"

Insert install disk and let it grab the needed files, sometimes office craps out of nothing and asks you for install media, takes just a few seconds, if it fails, remove office and reinstall it

I had this issue too on my work system a little while ago. Whenever I opened IE, Office 2003 setup would start running and never finish and once closed, it would try to start up two more times. Then, whenever I right clicked anywhere, Norton Antivirus setup would try to run (like 6 times before finally stopping). Eventually, I had to do a system restore to a few weeks before.

when you say you are trying to open with OO, I take it you mean you are double-clicking on the file?

if that is the case the file-associations are not quite correct
