Microsoft Office Applications running excessively slow

Whenever i try to resize font, go to print preview, or even just scroll in a word or excel document my whole computer just freezes up? is there any known problems with anything like this. i believe i have office 2000 and my laptop is a dell e1705, 2.0 ghz core duo, with 2 gb of ram. there is nothing else that runs like this on my computer and there is no reason that i can find for why it is doing this.

and its not hogging all my processor power either. It just doesnt like to load fonts?
