Microsoft is moving their AI technology into your PC in the next major Windows 10 update. This means applications that are AI enabled will use the GPU in your computer intead of having to link back to the cloud to operate. Microsoft claims this will lower latency and provide more real-time results for developers. Also, the AI software will support other external AI processing hardware like the Intel Movidius Video Processing Unit. While this sounds kind of interesting, just imagine if this AI gets control of your VR headset with candy feeding attachment and shoves a drill in your mouth instead.
When the slew of new machine-learning based apps, programs, and core processes begin to infiltrate the new Windows AI platform – and you can bet it’ll be sooner rather than later – the best way to power them will be harnessing as much GPU power as possible. This is apparent in the fact Microsoft has partnered with both AMD and Nvidia to support the update.
