Microsoft Has iPhone Coffin Parade?

Heh, after reading this part:

Windows Phone 7 is the most thoroughly tested mobile platform the folks at Redmond have ever shipped. According to Microsoft they had nearly ten thousand devices running automated tests daily, over a half million hours of active self-hosting use, over three and a half million hours of stress test passes, and eight and a half million hours of fully automated test passes. Microsoft has had thousands of independent software vendors and early adopters testing Windows Phone 7 and providing feedback.

Did anyone else think:

"but if you put your thumb on the corner, it will lose connection....." ? :)

Oh man, the funeral must have been ordered by Bill when he saw this on E this morning. LOL!

This is so overblown. This is nothing more then an office morall party thrown by the WP7 guys. This is not a media event, or some sort of bold announcement. Just a bunch of guys celibrating the launch of there product. I work at MS (NOT on the WP7) and I see this stuff all the time, including pirate ships driving down the campuss. I wish I was at this party, but I never saw any announcement. Like I said, just an office party.

Weak. Now when WP7 flops, we will have to get the shovels to dig back up our iPhones (or Android phones).

I'm glad to see MS blowing away the WinCE foundation and starting fresh- Windows Mobile was getting pretty old, so they needed to do this years ago.... the problem is that they will be starting with essentially a version 1.0 product (despite the 7 moniker) with all of the shortcomings that will bring with it..... PR stunts like this make it a REQUIREMENT that WP7 blow away iOS and Android, not just match them.... I don't see that happening.... why? They're using iOS as their reference point of awesomeness when they should be using Android.

Microsoft is getting pretty cocky lately. I know its been said they plan on spending over a million dollars in marketing WP7, but if this is how they do it they will fail miserably.

What PR stunt and marketing? As already stated, this was done on the microsoft campus itself and was just the dev team having some fun. This wasn't a press event, it wasn't a marketing event. It was just some guys having fun, and somebody took pictures & video and posted it online. Just like how if a woman gets drunk at the christmas party and screws a coworker, if you catch it on the survillence camera and post pictures / video of it online that doesn't count as your working being active in making porno.

Bunch of haters in here..I just wish my office parties were half that awesome. :( Oh thats right, we don't get those anymore or bonuses because the company was losing too much money (right after announcing record profits).

Nothing like thinking your product is going to be "The <insert defacto device of an area> Killer" to guarantee its success.

Copy and paste or a much more advanced and flexible version will be released in a future update. Looks like it will get flash support too down the road. I cant wait to get one.

Lame, but the more I see of this phone the more I definately want one and it'll be intresting to see slates based on this OS. I think this this is going to sell like hotcakes at least during the Holiday season, assuming that that 1B can get some GOOD ads. Hell steal the Gieco ad team, their ads are awesome, hell here's a free one:

"Is Windows 7 Phone great? Did Kirstie Alley raid the firdge last night?"

I think Kirstie Alley's lawyer would have a few choice words to say about that one ;)

But, yeah, Windows Phone 7 has potential to do acceptably if the marketing is right. And Microsoft's done some good marketing in recent years, but too often they end up just not doing it enough (or not at all). The buzz that's been generated so far should lay a decent foundation for a strong launch, so they at least have that going for them — they just need to capitalize on it.

Well I would hope that with a 1B to spend that Ms. Alley could be compenstated for her efforts. Maybe she would do it for midnight fridge raids!:D

But you said it as plainly as it can be said, they simply need to take this opportunity and execute well and so far Microsoft has with Windows 7 Phone. For the next two years this is what Microsoft pretty much HAS to do and I know that they are pretty much doing these things but I don't know yet just how serious they are about all of it.

1. Sucessful launch of Win 7 Phone
2. Get Windows 7 CE on some cool slates
3. Get devs SERIOUS about touch apps on Windows 7 desktop
4. Get medival with slates and tablets, ESPECIALLY digital pen tablets at this point. Microsof has a HUGE edge in ink right now and I see more and more people wanting low cost digitial pen tablets. There's no way for Apple or Google to compete with this right now but Microsoft HAS to push this for once. A $500 digital pen tablet would be HUGE in the educational and professional world
5. Improve Windows desktop touch experience in Windows 8
6. Get some of that impressive Surface and Courier tech into Windows 8
7. Get Windows 8 more modular and less power hungry. In conjunction with that they need help from Intel and AMD to get more power efficient x86 platforms

If Microsoft can execute resonably well on these items they will be stronger than ever.

The whole mobile phone platform is saturated.

They all will die a very slow death if there is not some sort of cross platform development implemented.

It's not saturated, it's just over hyped right now but in time it'll become old and boring and this is a HUGE market, there's room enough for anyone with a good product.

While I'm glad Android and Microsoft are giving Apple some competition, talk about putting the cart before the horse. That being said, I do really like my iphone 4 (its my first iphone btw)

Well after spending $1 billion on the Kin, not really having a business strategy to make money with the device and then only selling 1000 units, they really can't do worse with WP7.

A billion on Kin? Not by itself, if the cost were that high it had to involve other Windows 7 Phone development.

And the Android guys are just sitting in their bean bag chairs, sipping on peach iced tea, and laughing at everybody. More than likely anyway. The more I use android the more i like it.

This. Substitute the peach iced tea with this new seasonal lemon tea beer I recently discovered, and you've got it down, friend.

This is a wierd way to celebrate... oh well. It's a free country. :)

P.S. I am really anxious to try one of these out. I think WP7 will be good.

Just wait. A few updates down the road and it starts acting like crap. It works great at first, then craps out. Slow, stuff crashes, slow... Crash. Why wont my screen turn on? Crash. LOL Maybe a little exaggeration, but it usually works that way.

They should have been talking WINMO 6.5 to the grave instead of the iPhone...

My HTC HD2 is dead in the water now. At least I can boot Ubuntu and Android on it though. :D

You mean like the 100% full flash support that I have on my HTC Incredible?

Or maybe advanced copy and paste like how I can highlight something on my desktop pc, press one button, and it gets automatically copied to my phone's clipboard? OR I can highlight a phone number on my desktop and press one button and it makes the phone call? Or highlight an address on my desktop and press one button and my phone automatically pastes the address and begins navigation?

I don't think people realize how amazing Android has become. Nothing else can touch it.

LOL @ Microsoft. Give up the phone space. You've always sucked at it and always will.

I love people who can't remember the past yet can predict the future! I loved the 2003 Android and iPhone. Now that you've got that out of the way go win the Lotto!:D

If they are serious about its success then it will. Enough money thrown at it in advertising and it will rise to the top. I know the os will be nice, and think MS should have made the hardware as well. This may be a huge mistake in the end, or not. Look how well andriod is doing.

They did it with the xbox, now all thats left to see is if they are really serious and will spend to money to market the phone the way it should be.

Oh I remember the past all right. I remember my ViewSonic PPC 2002 device, my PPC 2003 from HP, and my WM 5 from Palm. All were complete trash.

WP7 is going to suck as much as the rest did. Microsoft is a complete failure at designing device interfaces and delivering actual embedded operating systems instead of modified desktop systems. Good desktop OS maker, terrible mobile OS maker. Leave the mobile space to good companies like Apple and Google.
