If you received an invitation to sign up for a Halo 4 Beta test, forget it, it’s not the real deal. Microsoft has filed an official complaint over Halo4beta.net’s attempt to infringe on Microsoft’s copyright. The site has been since been shut down by the owner, but not quite fast enough for Microsoft who is going after ownership of the domain name.

Apparently wanting to avoid legal troubles after gaming sites went abuzz with David Ellis’ warning, the operator of Halo4beta.net took the website down, but that’s not going to be enough for Microsoft.

I applaud them for doing something that is a real copyright infringement, and fraud. But not so much that they seem to be using it as a foothold to launch another attack to get the domain name too.

It's not a very good website name. The bigger issue is that those fake signup websites are usually hotbeds for phishing scams and other nasty things. I'm glad MS is going after them.

No, it's not. But I just don't like how they are extending it to grab the domain.
