If all goes as expected, Monday will be the day Steve Ballmer will introduce the world to the newest version of Microsoft Office Suite to be named Office 15. The updated Office 15 is designed to blend together seamlessly with the new Windows 8 operating system.

The new suite of apps is expected to be cloud-connected, and built to work on a variety of devices, including tablets like the Microsoft's new Windows 8-powered Surface.

Now that everyone is finally used to the W7 Ribbon interface, they must reinvent the Office interface yet again...just to piss everyone off.

Great we just finished our office 2010 migration a few months back.. Sheesh..

I wonder if they'll be discussing this version of Office integrated with the iPad.

It'd be nice if they did. Have the turned loose an Android version too? Someone needs to make a decent office suite for phones and tablets on those platforms for people that want to actually attempt to be productive on them.

2003 is still working fine for me. What else is there to do? More font choices? I hardly ever use office anyways.

I don't think it looks that different from 2010 to be honest.

That's what you get for migrating 2010 software in 2012.

You obviously don't work in an enterprise of any kind.
We have yet to make the move to Office 2010, these releases must be stable on all ends of the spectrum, not just the consumers' desktop; not to mention licensing agreements and legalities.

We just started roll-out of 2010. We'll roll this out in probably 2 years.

It doesn't deserve a version. Lucky they got a year.

Actually the OS X flavor of Office is far superior to the Windows version in every way.
As hard as that is to believe, it's true.

I would much rather use the OS X variant than the Windows variant.

I installed Office for Mac on my rMBP and haven't given it much time yet, but I do like the look of everything. I hope it is updated for the retina display soon, though that's probably wishful thinking.

Try out PowerPoint, it is absolutely superior to the Windows variant.
Makes me angry that Microsoft doesn't make the Windows variant the exact same, or at least with similar functionality.

office 15...hmmm im looking to see some real improvements either to algorithms or stability etc

especially access, access bogs down often with many rows

I just got windows 7 and office 10 on my office PC...so I can see this not being big in the corporate world until windows 9 comes around.

Many more features and functionalities.
Look up some youtube videos on it, especially powerpoint, you'll see what I mean.

Glad I don't use powerpoint much then. Try control+shift+f in outlook on your Apple version. (Oh, does apple have a control key?)

They have both control and shift keys on their keyboards.

Laddering you into the new OS. They've always used their OS to force you into their application and visa versa. More in the beginning than recent times. I see they've gone back to an old practice

All I can say is that I hate the change for change sake (an more sales) I've switched to the open source office alternatives that are more than enough at home, even though I can get office for home for $10.

Fuck Windows 8. If Linux didn't suck worse I'd use it.

I had been holding out on technology being the saving grace for humanity. This is what we get? The only OS which is important in the consumer world is becoming a children's toy to help you read news which isn't true and buy shit you don't need with money you don't have on an interface which you don't like.

holy shit tylerdurden's alter ego just commented on this thread!

If you don't like it, then build your own Linux distro:

You sound like you've never heard of Linux Mint? Check out Linux Mint "cinnamon" version 13. I've just installed it on my laptop and love it so far. It seems to be the most put together distro I've found so far.

If you hardly ever use it, probably not many reasons. However if you use it frequently or especially outlook, then there is a boatload of reasons to get off 2003. Stability, resource management, speed and One Note integration are just a few reasons. If you haven't discovered One Note...Single...best addition to Office basically ever. It very quickly went from an amusing thing I tinkered with to "holy crap this is really freaking versatile" and now I use it just about daily.

I wish they would fix the problems with 2010 instead of bothering with a new version. I'm constantly plagued with issues in Excel 2010 that gave me no problem on 2003. Sorting, filtering, selecting, copying and pasting all suck in 2010.
