MicroCenter confirms GeForce RTX 4080 US pricing, from $1200 to $1549

I don't have a problem with the pricing on the 4090 @ $1600 bucks, because the RTX 3090 originally launched at $1499 back in Fall 2020, so the new card is only $100 bucks more or 6% price difference.

But for the life of me, I can't understand this pricing on the 4080 at $1200 bucks when the original RTX 3080 launched at $699 back in Fall 2020. That's a 75% increase in price.

How come the 4090 is only $100 more than the 3090, but the 4080 is $500 more than the 3080. Makes zero sense.

Plus, the 4090 is a big performance upgrade over the 3090 for only $100 more, yet the 4080 is just a little bit faster than the 3080 and it's a lot more expensive.

Ive said the 4090 price isnt too crazy given inflation and all but the 4080 price is bonkers. Nvidia smoking that good shit if they think people are gonna pay those prices for a 4080.

3090 $1499
4090 $1600

Ok, not that big a deal, just a minor price increase, and the performance upgrade is huge, almost double the speed. Pay a hundred bucks for double the performance, ok YES

3080 $699
4080 $1200

WTF? Why such a monumental price increase? But the performance upgrade is only 40% Pay $500 for just 1/3rd better performance, uh...

Right? lol people have been complaining ever since the 1080 Ti went from $699 to $1199 with the 2080 Ti but the cards still sell anyways. 100% guarantee the 4080 will also sell out instantly.

The 2080 Ti @ $1200 makes sense, because then the RTX-3090 launched @ $1400, and now the RTX-4090 launches @ $1600. So the pricing has been going up $200 every new gen release, makes sense, and has a consistent price increase of only 10% or so for each new generation.

And the GTX-1080 was $549, and then RTX-2080 was $799, and the RTX-3080 $699, but why is the RTX-4080 a massive 75% higher priced @ $1200? That makes zero sense.

GPU prices are insane, but if people keep paying for them there is no reason for the prices to fall either!
This. The more foolish consumers that take these price hikes the more GPU vendors will continue to raise prices.

They're their own worst enemy.
Very likely. The 7900xtx will be gone immediately too. I’m getting comfortable with buying last gen used like the old days again.
That's what I've done the past several generations. This shit is ridiculous. Clearly gaming is not my primary hobby.

The 2080 Ti doesn't make sense at $1200 when the 1080 Ti was $699. It's literally the same price increase as going from a 3080 at $699 to a 4080 at $1200 so how does one make sense but not the other? And keep in mind RT and DLSS was NOT a feature that was well implemented yet, it was just a future promise that may or may never have been fullfilled. The only thing that mattered at the time was pure raster performance and the 2080 Ti was only about 25% faster than a 1080 Ti in raster. So....75% more money for 25% more raster performance? Still makes sense?

Agreed, the 1080Ti launch price of $700 and then the next gen top card RTX-2080Ti going for $1199 is crazy, but since then nVidia has been consistent with their top end cards only going up 10% each new gen for the past 6 years now. 2080ti @ $1200, 3090 @ $1400, 4090 @ $1600.

But the 80 series was always in the $600 to $800 range, never crossing the $1000+ range. Old GTX-680 @ $550, GTX-780 Ti @ $699, GTX-980 @ $550, GTX-1080 @ $550, RTX-2080 @ $799, RTX-3080 @ $699, but then BAM $1,200.00 for the RTX-4080 WTF?

....so? They still managed to upshift the price of everything massively. Ampere was only a great deal when compared to Turing, yet people kept praising it as the deal of a decade. So might as well pull the same on the lower end cards too. This is why I don't buy "It's a halo product, don't buy it" argument. The lower tiers will start getting the same treatment the more we normalize it.

You could literally say the same thing about the 80 Ti class of GPU though. Prior to the 2080 Ti, the 80 Ti class has never crossed $1000. 780 Ti $699, 980 Ti $649, 1080 Ti $699. Now the 2080 Ti brought it over the $1000 mark, people were upset at first but now just accept that the 80 Ti class is supposed to be this expensive. Same deal with the 80 class GPU, once it crosses the $1000 mark people will complain at first then later on just accept that this is the correct pricing for it. When the RTX 5080 launches for $1400 people are going to be saying "well it only went up by $200 compared to the 4080! that's not so bad at all" and then forget that the 80 class GPU used to be no more than $500.

Good points guys, I agree.

Basically the big green is shafting us, and telling us to like it

I sure AMD has a 4080 killer in the 7900XTX for $999
:)

Yet I bet a big minority here will run and buy the ridiculously priced 4080. Can't blame Nvidia if the fish keeps biting in huge numbers.

LOL, considering the deteriorating economic situation, and the fact that the GTX 1060 is still quite popular, not sure what nvdia is smoking reading this article. It will be most interesting to see how the Radeon RX7900 series cards perform before even thinking about buying one of these overpriced cards.

The whole thing is comical.
Do people really see any of this as a good value?
Nvidia, AIBs and scalpers responded to supply and demand by jacking prices through the roof.
The bottom falls out after gamers were forced to sit out Ampere due to shortages whether manufactured or otherwise.
Nvidia comes out and says buy those older cards or we will not release the newer stuff.
Gamers jump on the newer stuff and justify it's outrageous pricing.

Nvidia and everyone willing to pay these insane prices are to blame. Remember when top tier GPUs were around $500-$600?
I realize inflation is a thing, but c'mon people! Stop paying these ridiculous prices, the situation is only going to get worse as you're telling them it's perfectly fine to jack up prices every generation.

Agreed. nVidia xx80 series has been in the $550 - $700 price range for like 10 years, seriously a decade plus of this pricing.

Now BOOM major price increase to $1,200+

Inflation didn't cause the $699 3080 to go up to $1200 for the 4080 in just two years.

Not buying it just on principle. Just can't do it, won't be fooled into giving greedy nVidia my money.

I'm just going to buy used from now on. I don't need to run the latest games at the highest graphics and resolution. In fact, I don't even game as much as I used to, so it's their loss not mine.

Unless you're into gaming or have another g compute need (rendering, NLE video, et al) the igpu is generally OK. And even if it's not, a "lowly" 1080ti that's considered "ancient" by most will run things fine. Four figure GPU market used to be reserved for professionals. I guess Titan changed that but at least (then) it stood out. (with the exception of Titan RTX of course!)

I bought a used 3090 and couldn't be happier. This shit needs to settle down before I ever consider buying new again. Not worth it in the slightest. I just went from a 2080TI to a 3090 and aside from knowing what my computer is packing, the 2080ti had plenty of life and so did the 1080ti I sold for the 2080ti lol People buying new at these prices are just a lost cause. I will get a 4090......2-3 years from now.

I've seen used 3090 FEs on Facebook Marketplace for like $700 lately. That's a deal and I'd get that over the outrageous 4080.

Was up super early to watch the NASA moon rocket launch, so I checked out Best Buy and Microcenter websites early this morning just to see if the RTX 4080 was up for sale yet. It said "coming soon" at 2am, and even at 6am still "coming soon" I checked once more before I walked the dogs at 7:45am still "coming soon", back at 8:15am it now states "sold out" "Unavailable"

WTF did they have just a hundred cards up for sale today? Not that I really would've been a dumb chump an actually give greedVidia my money for an overpriced card that should be selling for no more than $899, but still shocked it's sold out already.

Scalpers not users.

I had my 3090 FE in the FS/FT threads at $700 for a month before someone bought it.

Seems like plenty of stock at NE at the moment.

With some of the 4080 cards being in the $1300 to $1400 range, just get the 4090 for $1599 which is a good 30% better performance than the 4080.

There are still dumb dumbs out there that would buy the 4080 anyway :ROFLMAO:

How do you propose for them to just find a 4090 at $1600 ?

You either have to buy a scalped one on the open market or in a pre-made gaming desktop.

i doubt many would buy the 1,550 4080 on a tablet next to the $1599 4090, but that a fantasy world, the 4080 $1,550 exist, because there is no $1,600 4090 on a tablet next to it.

Look on newegg what the cheapest, not out of stock 3080ti to 3090ti you can find ? How bad that 4080 look in average FPS/dollar relative to them.:
https://www.newegg.com/asus-geforce-rtx-3080-ti-rog-strix-lc-rtx3080ti-o12g-gaming/p/N82E16814126517?Description=3080 TI&cm_re=3080_TI-_-14-126-517-_-Product
The 3080TI Rog is $1,700 right now

The cheapest one I can find, the zotac version seem to be $1,160:
https://www.newegg.com/p/1FT-000M-003D7?Item=9SIA6V6JB62861&Description=3080 TI&cm_re=3080_TI-_-9SIA6V6JB62861-_-Product&cm_sp=SP-_-1466352-_-0-_-2-_-9SIA6V6JB62861-_-3080 TI-_-3080|ti-_-19

You get 37% more performance for 33% more dollars while usually performance/price goes down not up and you have superbe Asus line versus lowest line Zotac, more VRAM future proof, etc.. has well.

That card was a terrible value, but not because of what you can buy right now instead of newegg from nvidia, at least no ? Maybe I am not able to search correctly on newegg or it detect my VPN or something.

With patience. Unless you absolutely need one right away then you probably already have one. If not, just wait it out if you can.

Marietta MC still has several 4080 SKUs in stock, it's almost 6pm, and this never happened with the 4090 or the prior GPU generations.

To me, that's a clear sign that people aren't going to take NVIDIA's price gouging any more - an appropriately priced card would've sold out before noon.

We'll see what happens on RX 7900 XT(X) launch day - I'm betting those will sell out within hours like the 4090 did, assuming the AIBs don't get greedy with their usual premiums, and then NVIDIA will definitely have to adjust the 4080's position to compete.

The RTX 3090 was ridiculously priced as well. I don't think I'd use that as the comparison.

Yeah, the 4080 at $1200 just seems horribly priced. I don't blame nvidia for getting what they can now, but I can't imagine sales being good once the AMD cards come out, unless they drop prices to match.

What I find comical, in a sad way are people rushing out to buy a new RTX 4080, but they already have a nice 3090 or something newer. Like what?

A 3080 Ti, 3090, and 3090 Ti are fantastic cards, even today, there's no fire rush to run out and get this slightly faster 4080 for $1200+

I could see if you had an old 1080 Ti or 2070, yes go grab that 4080, but anyone with a 3080 Ti or better I think are crazy getting this new card. Unless you picked up a new 4k OLED monitor that you need 144+ fps in games at that high res.
