This game looks great! I loved it on the PS1, this should be 10x better....but it's gamecube only WTF?!??!

Does anyone know if this will be released on any other platforms?

AFAIK no it wont be on other platforms.

I am wondering how the hell the control setup will work. It's going to be a little bizarre, but I think they can pull it off. It looks freaking awesome

This game does look bad ass. One more title I will add to my GameCube collection. :D

Twins Snakes 33% of my reasoning for getting a GC in the first place. And better yet, no bisexual vampires and demonic possesing hands!

i think i heard somewhere that nintendo gave them large sax of $$$ to make it gc exclusive, but thats not been proven so i wont say it, but it's most likely.

Man that's sucks cuz it is my favorite game. But I have a GC and I dont use it and dont want to buy it for GC.

mgs2:sol had that fruity vampire remember...oh and raiden most certainly liked it in the pooper

mgs2:sol is fun on the ship playing as snake, but raiden is such a bitch

btw drop the gamecube harshness...its an awesome, but underrated system...go buy one cheap and get mgs:ss, zelda, metroid, resident evil 1 remake and be happy

The action is too flashy. I don't think it's in the spirit of the first game..

I've not played any of the MG games. I thought MG was a bit more based in reality. Guess not. heh

Just MGS2. The rest of the series [MGS and the original Meta Gears] is pretty heavily grounded in reality.

I think it will be cool on GameCube and I think the GC has the most comfortable controller :).

I don't see why people hate GC so much, the average games a console owner owns is about 10 before they sell the console and games.

GC has lots of great AAA games, I guess the Kiddie image Nintendo have created for themselves is really ruining them here in the West.

I've currently got 25 games for my ps2 and 10 for my GC. By the time these systems are retired I fully intend to double those numbers [all bought mind you, no mod chips for me]. Heh...who is this average joe? :D

It shouldn't be exclusive because metal gear solid was original for ps1, and now they being stupid and only doing exclusive for gamecube. I don't like gamecube controllers much and it is always better to play it on ps2. I might and probably will buy mgs ts for gamecube if those idiots wont release it for ps2.

I think the original Metal Gear was on the NES. PS2 has Snake Eater coming to it anyway. I think there is a PS2 to GC adapter if you don't like the GC pad that much and also from what I've seen the GC is capable of producing better graphics than the PS2 and is supposed to be easier to program for which is maybe why it's a GC exclusive.

gc is much easier to program for than ps2, and it can do better graphics than ps2, whether it does or not is up to the game devs.

Its GC exclusive because the developer Silicon Knights [Konami didn't make Twin Snakes though Kojima oversaw the project] has only made GC games in the past. Their last game, Eternal Darkness, was very good. Also, MG isn't a ps1 property, it's been around since the MSX/Nes days. People who think MGS is the 'original' anything are just another one of those bandwagon boys.

silicon Knights is nintendo's american developer, they are owned and controlled by NoA.

Yeah right those idiots sure are stupid.

Try and conceal your fanboy-ism a tad bit better next time.

I'm goning to buy a gamecube just for this game

I loved the original one

the reason that it's gc exclusive is because nintendo went to kojima and asked for a mg game, but since he was too busy working on snake eater he came up with the idea for a mgs remake which he could let other devolpers handle

I wouldn't look for this to ever be on another system

I saw a FMV demo in some import shop and the sound and video looked like something a PS1 would produce, just like the ports of Resident Evil 2 and 3. I hope that footage was very old and just a teaser because after seeing Resident Evil RE:make from CAPCOM, well that remake was amazing.

Uh...MGS never used FMVs. It used in-game cinematics. Twin Snakes will be no different. I have no idea what you saw but TS looks better graphically than MGS2.

Well in-game cinematics then, I'll refer to it as Cutscenes. If you live in London and know where Computer Exchange is near Tottenham Court Road, there's another import shop nearby, it's a small one, they had it there. The ingame movies looked exactly like the PS1 version of the game, the actual game footage looked better, noticably the introduction of the first person aiming, like in SoL/Substance.

Having just googled some screenshots, yes it looks like the graphics attention to detail seems to be missing, the whole thing looks too smooth.

E.g. look at this screenshot: sure they've bumped up the polygons used in each character and stuff, but look at the textures on the barrels, you can't make them out at all.

Or look at this picture, where are their shadows? The gamecube can manage much better lighting effects than this, I'll post some pictures of MGS1 emulated from my PC later, I think the PS1 genome soldiers looked more like soldiers despite their lack of polygons.

MGS-1 Screens

First off, you're looking at old pictures from a build that's over a year old. The demo you're talking about is based off of that build.

Here are some newer pictures. If you still think that it looks like a bleem-version of MGS1 then I hope you never get an art-job in the games industry :/

As for the cutscenes, you honestly think these look like PSX cutscenes?!

that game is Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons of Liberty. :(

after beating it i said to my self this isnt shit compared to MGS (on PS1)

it sure looked pretty though

I never said that it looked like a bleem version, nor do I use bleem. I was just saying the soldiers in the PS1 version look more like a solider. The GC soldiers look very pure, their uniforms are too white and they look less convincing, sorta like they're too clean to be menacing. Also I'm only on 56k so I'm not going to download those QuickTime video's, but the video I'm referring to is not necessarily one that you've seen, as I said in my post before, I hope it was very early footage which is quite possible. It was footage from the JAP version I think and the intro screen was red instead of blue as shown in some screen shots I've seen.

I'm sure the game will be great, I was just hoping the graphics would be a little sharper.

What? You just said that you were going to post pics of an emulated psx-version for comparison -- hence the bleem comments.

I don't understand wtf you're trying to say. You keep changing what you're using to compare the games. It sounds like you're saying that the game's graphics in the cutscenes look like the psx version because the soldiers have pure-white uniforms? that makes no damn sense.

just, look at the pics, download the cutscenes and realize how much of a graphics overhaul this game has come from the psx to the gamecube. the cutscenes are like 10-12mb, so it should only take like 20-30min each on 56k

how the heck do the graphics in the right-pic look the same as the graphics in the left.

OK, hopefully this will put some things straight:

I used ePSXe to emulate it, not bleem, an emulator all the same, but a different one. And I did post pics, I editted my post before and put a zip with three pics, not to say that the graphics are similar or better on the PS1 version, but instead to show that I think the soldiers look more 'hard' if you want to put it like that. The ones in the GameCube version look a bit like white pansies.

My original comment about the FMV movie was a bit unclear so I'll try and explain it better. I was in a games shop with specialise in imports with a few friends. On the TV at the front of the store was Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes, it was a movie playing that's why I called it an FMV movie. I don't think it was actual code running of the game because it didn't say anything like press start, although if it did it would have been in Japenese. Anyway, the graphics didn't appear to look as good as any of the screenshots here, perhaps it was some footage they had downloaded or got on a DVD or something, I didn't ask them. The quality looked like it was coming from something PS1 hardware produced, near the end of it's life there were graphically better better games than MGS. Also the sound quality didn't sound too good either, but that could just be because of the shops speakers, or rather speaker, I could only see one which was projecting sound from the back of the store. I do agree that the Gamecube version looks MUCH better than the PS1 version of the game from the screenshots which I've seen. But as I've said in this post, the pure white uniforms make the soldiers seem kiddish (yeah I know I've changed my word each time, I try not to stick to the same boring word if I can, good practise for my english exams coming up :)).

If anyone's ever played the Resident Evil REmake on Gamecube I think you'll agree that the graphics and lighting effects are amazing, the only flaws in the game are perhaps Shadows, they are blocky. While Twin Snakes looks miles better than the original, I don't think the graphics are quite up there with Resident Evils, but maybe that's because I'm looking at individual screens on a high resolution monitor rather than a low resolution TV set. As for my comment on Resident Evil 2 + 3, well, they were direct ports from the PS1 with no graphical improvements.

My next post I linked to two screenshots. Both look graphically superior to the first game or anything a PS1 could produce but I was simply stating that the texture quality isn't very high. If you compare it to recent games such as Max Payne 2 I think you'll agree. The text on the barrels of the first picture is unreadable and in the second picture Snake as octagon sleeves and the Genome Soldiers look like Stormstroopers made out of snow. The appearance of their uniform from the first game has changed quite drastically, just look at their helmets, no longer are they genome soldiers but they're StormTroopers from Star Wars. I'm just hoping with a suit that white, when you shoot them you'll be able to see the blood stain their uniforms.

I hope that's straightened somethings up. I'm not against this game, I'll probably end up buying it :p.

Well I guess the soldier-thing is your own personal preference. I think they look fine and you're just crazy ;)

I think it's wrong to compare the leap from RE-PSX->RE-GC with the leap in MGS simply because RE relied on pre-rendered CG scenes. Since these were simply bitmaps, more horsepower was available to use in lighting effects, shadows, etc etc. MGSTT is unlike RE in that everything has to rendered in real-time. Comparing REmake and MGSTT is comparing apples to oranges.....no...more like trying to compare steaks to oranges.

As for the cutscene you saw, I dunno. But the ones I've seen resemble those I linked above. And those looks EXCEEDINGLY better than anything I've witnessed on the PSX or an emulated-psx on a 3d card. I suggest you take the time and download them, they are badass.

Hahahaha. Fat chance it'll be released on anything but GameCube.

Wont be 10X better. I think people will get bored of it after the first couple times they pass it. Unless there's some mini games like in MGS2 with the dog tags.
