Researchers at the University of Washington successfully transmitted brain signals over the Internet. They hope to be able to develop technology to transmit more complex information from one brain to another. Better keep those thoughts clean, research team!

Using a special skull cap outfitted with electrodes, scientists were able to take the thoughts from one person's brain and redirect them into another's, enabling one study participant to control the hand motions of a person situated in another room in another building.

This "remote control" technology (with some refining), combined with a camera over the "puppet's" eyes, and a head-mounted display for the "puppet master," could lead to a whole new form of telepresense, where you simply rent someone else's body in a remote location and interact through them

It's a bit like the movie Surrogates, except it uses other humans instead of robots.

It can also be argued that DNA is nothing more than a program designed to preserve itself. Life has become more complex in the overwhelming sea of information. And life, when organized into species, relies upon genes to be its memory system. So, man is an individual only because of his intangible memory... and memory cannot be defined, but it defines mankind. The advent of computers, and the subsequent accumulation of incalculable data has given rise to a new system of memory and thought parallel to your own. Humanity has underestimated the consequences of computerization.

In a way, its like a "ghost" in a shell if you will.

Tell the truth fellas. This could create the best interactive porn ever! Take control of your significant other's hands and...

Im staying old school. Yall can go all digi flesh. Ill die with dignity.

Man, I just got up from a nap and read the thread title as "Mentat Moslems".

The practical applications of this could be to someday help paraplegics potentially. If we could learn to interpret the 'transmitted thoughts' in a machine/surrogate body, one could regain the ability to 'walk' by walking through a machine and experiencing all the sights/sounds/etc. It could have some use for dangerous jobs too like walking-through a solider robot or walking-through a deep sea welder robot. If your robot dies, it's just the machine and you're still safe at home somewhere.

Have fun..the moment being able to shed this body in favor of something more permanent becomes reality. I'm all aboard that train. Ghost in the Shell, yes please.
