Memory Displayed in System Properties

Does anyone have an idea as to why system properties is displaying 512MB of RAM when I have 1.5GB installed? I'm on an A8V motherboard and A64 3500+. I've noticed some games and whatnot loading slow and choppy while in game, but thought it was my video card. I just reseated the modules, but it hasn't changed. Is XP really only using or seeing 512MB, or is this just a number displayed?
 
In addition, SiSoft reports that I have 3 512MB modules installed, so I'm unsure as to why XP is not showing that info as well.
 
I guess the A8V I just put in my box is really picky with memory. Once I removed one of the modules, it showed the correct 1gig in the system, as soon as I reintroduce the 3rd module it goes back down to 512MB.
