The McLaren F1 team started a competition back in May to find a new simulator driver for their team through the use of racing games. At the conclusion of the testing, Rudy van Buren from Lelystad, Netherlands was crowned the World's Fastest Gamer and received a one year contract to be the new simulator driver for the team. Not too shabby for being a video game player if you ask me. Keep playing those racing games and you might make it to the big time, too.

The competition launched back in May, with opening rounds taking place online, including one with our old friends CJ Wilson Racing and TORA. Twelve gamers started the finals. Six were chosen from the judging panel, including some familiar names from the top level of eRacing; Bono Huis won $200,000 in the Las Vegas Formula E eRace in December, and Greger Huttu made headlines back in 2010 after winning the iRacing World Championship. The other six qualified online; three from Forza Motorsport 6, one each from Gear.Club, iRacing, and rFactor (Van Buren).

I hate when stories like this come out. It makes everyone that plays racing games think they can drive because they're good at Forza. It is fun watching their hopes and dreams get shattered at the track though.

Considering the chances of making a good living from video game skills is probably a little bit less than those who put an equal amount of time into sports....

How about they simulate an engine from a supplier that will last through the race besides Honda. Alonso can't catch a break, feel bad for him.

Sports is played out. You have to have the physique and genetics along with the work rate to be able to do anything at a pro level. There's still room left in niche video games for an enthusiast to make the jump, but either way your chances are not good.

Yes, there is an epidemic of people who think that, where exactly?
As a first post that says more about your insecurities than anyone else.
