I got an mce remote from a freind of mine, with the ir blaster and everything, but now i'd like to use it windows xp (pro). Is there any free software that I can use to prgram the keys. I dont wnat anythign fancy, just things like volume control and stuff.

Thanks

I tried looking for this answer over a year ago when I used XP, but never could find a method.

Have you tried hooking up the device and installing the drivers and testing it? In Vista, my remote controls system sound whether I'm using Media Center or not. I just tested it, and it lowered and raised and muted/unmuted the volume with only WMP playing a song. Might just be a vista thing, but I doubt it.

That is a Vista thing. If it is the basic Microsoft remote control, there are no available drivers for it.

I have that same remote. hopefully you have a version 2 or above (Because it will not work with the older one)

Great! I have been looking for a solution for over a year. I hope this works for me!

I've only been able to use it for volume control and switching tracks on winamp. But winamp has to be on focus and I can't pause/play. :c(
