McAfee Streamlining (?)

I'm sure this has been addressed but I'm not home and on my phone.... I'm looking for a way to streamline McAfee so that it is extremely low impact. I have a family member with a low spec laptop that has a year paid subscription and I'd like to free up some resources...

Uninstall it. Install Avira Free AV and enjoy.

Yeah, this is such a drag. I use NOD personally and live it. I really wish he wouldn't have paid for this. Might as well be Norton..... ugh. But, I need to make this work even if I have to castrate it. Thanks for your input though
