Call me cynical but isn't antivirus the last thing you want to be beta testing? That's like beta testing condoms.
Follow along with the video below to see how to install our site as a web app on your home screen.

McAfee? Nope, not even for free. I was hoping Intel would turn things around, but it's still a terrible antivirus.
AVG better and FREE
Avira better and also FREE
Kaspersky free after mail in rebates maximum pwnage
Friends don't let friends run McAfee.

I was going to ask if McAfee still sucked....looks like I got my answer
The package of junk they install alongside their AV still sucks. In the past month I have had three different clients have computers borked by Norton program updates. In each case an update managed to quietly break the OS whilst the Norton software claimed all was fine. This lead to loss of updates or access to the Internet. But someone said Norton sucks too which is not true so you should do your own investigating instead of relying on forum posts. Norton did suck...ten years ago.
Free BJs for the staff? No wonder they are so distractedI used to work at McAfee (internship) and I can confirm that McAfee sucks.

That is the best review of McAfee products out there. I'd love to see what Peter Norton thinks about Symantec's trashing of his name in the same way.A 2 year old video that is still applicable today...
definitely nsfw

I only recommend Avira/AVG (free or paid), Kaspersky or Norton.
Even Kaspersky (which is arguably the best) has a ~50% hit rate against all viruses and variants.
If you are going to surf questionable places, a linux VM inside windows with EMEF.

I surf in a Linux VM using Oracle VirtualBox that I always revert to a snapshot when I close it - but what is EMEF?
Actually it remains true and remains true of basically every AV mentioned here. All of them are garbage at this point, especially the free versions. AVG, Avast, Avira all AV's I used to swear by at one point I wouldn't install on any system for any reason now.
The reality is performance wise all of them shit up your system except MSE. Unfortunately MSE's detection isn't what it used to be after the AV Cartels threatened to cost MS a bunch of money in lawsuits for daring to encroach on their extortion software. So what is the solution you ask? Stick with MSE and regularly use tools like Malwarebytes and Combofix to keep things clean. Combine this with smart computing habits and you shouldn't have a problem.

Pass, both Norton and McAfee ceased being competitive products back around the year 2000 and just got slower, more intrusive and less usable ever since.
How much are they paying us to test it?
Ya McAfee is pretty crappy.
Norton is decent these days. It used to be bad but after trying it out again, I wouldn't mind using it.
