Homeland Security will be getting some McAfee cybersecurity in the near future, but with a slightly different twist. Monday, Phyllis Schneck, a vice president with McAfee, was appointed to head up a division of Homeland Security cybersecurity.

Schneck, who holds a doctorate's degree in computer science from Georgia Tech, has been vice president and chief technology officer for the global public sector at McAfee, which is a division of Intel.

Just when you thought a government agency couldn't operate any slower...

The enterprise version of McAfee is a whole lot better than the home version, and a lot less bloated.

That being said, the story was nothing about what security software that the government is using or going to use.

What surprises me is that it looks like they actually hired somebody that may actually know what they are doing.

The last sentence of the article tells you all you need to know:

"In a statement, DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano said Schneck will work on strengthening partnerships designed to strengthen networks with the private sector."

He'll embed himself so deeply in the department that they'll have to shut down the whole place and start from scratch to get rid of him.

I wonder if they will need to make a removal tool to get her out of office.

In other words, lets hier an industry insider so he can help us force security companies to insert back doors into thier security software that we can use to spy on people.

Good for him! It's pretty hard to get a job with the Ministry of Peace, but once you are in, you are set!
