Managed switch between the Router and Unmanaged switches?

Hey all,

The current network setup is (2) 24-port unmanaged switches each connecting independently to a router then modem to the internet. Is it possible to plug a managed switch in between the router and the unmanaged switches to packet sniff the network? I was thinking plugging a PC in with wireshark to the managed switch and then the (2) unmanaged switches to the managed switch and be able to packet sniff the network.

I want to say in theory yes (never done so myself is why). Set yourself up a management VLAN (PC) on the managed switch then use either port mirroring on the ports plugging from the unmanaged switch to the managed switch. Perhaps put each of those connections from each switch into their own VLAN to minimize the broadcast and for management purposes.

Someone with more knowledge correct me if I'm wrong (still learning myself).
