A long time ago I decided that I would build and repair my own Ethernet cables around the house and in the server rooms before the days of virtual servers came about. If you find yourself needing to repair or build your own cables, I just came across this thread in the HardForum that is short and to the point. As long as you can see fairly well, and have a strong grip, which I am sure most of you do, you can quickly be on your way to making your own and fixing those that you need to. Get you a crimper, some bulk cable, some RJ45 ends, your way Or just buy a kit. Certainly the tools have gotten a lot cheaper. I think I paid around $75 for mine 10 years ago. If you are going to be making a lot of cables, it is worth your while to grab a tester kit for Cat5 and 6. It can certainly save you time and keep you from running cable twice. Check out the Video.
