low FPS in TF2 with a GTX 970?

i7 [email protected], 10GB ram, 840 pro, 3008wfp (2560x1600) DVI-D, gigabyte GTX 970
I don't know much about this stuff so here are some screenshots

In spawn I'll get 250FPS which even then is still not super high but obviously quite sufficient. However once there are several characters on screen it drops to the low 50s and somtimes <40. I want a 144hz monitor so I need to fix this first.


Messing around with different resolutions, fullscreen/window seems to do nothing, and it seems like I have everything at the lowest setting? I don't have any absurd programs running in the background like bitcoin mining.

Why is multicore rendering disabled?

MultiCore rendering should be enabled, and why are all of the graphics feature in low? you are certainly limited by your CPU.

Yeah, X58 is a bit past it's prime. If your motherboard supports it you could put in one of those cheap used socket 1366 6 core xeons if you're determined to stick with your current motherboard. Otherwise it'd be a good time to bump up to X79, X99, Z97, or Z170 here shortly.
