So a wee bit of backstory: for the past few years I have been using a 2.1 set of Swan M-10s. Never really been happy with them. They were pretty but that is pretty much where the positives ended for me. The left speaker hissed if left on for more than a few hours, audio clarity always felt mushy even to my non audiophile ears, and it would drop audio and or crackle if you had it adjusted to anything but certain spots on the volume knob. From day one that companies customer service has been frustrating for me, giving me the run around and offering minimal options at what would have been expense to me to correct the issues. It was really a frustrating experience for me. I would definitely not recommend these speakers to anyone.
I've been sticking with them out of stubbornness since I spent hard earned cashola on them.
I finally broke down and bought the newest version of the M-Audio 2.0s, the AV-42s. http://www.m-audio.com/products/view/av42
Now, it is only day one so we will see if my story changes, but I am really loving these things so far. The crispness and quality (again not an audiophile) of them is really great. They are very responsive, no hiss, and for just being a 2.0 their base is still quite nice for a computer set up. At a $150 price point I am very happy with them.
