After browsing that site, my jaw was just all over my desk having glanced over 12,000RPM 60mms, 9,000RPM 80mms, 8,000RPM 92mms, and 6,300RPM 120mms. The power, noise, and airflow are just sickening! I LOVE it!

Yeah, I got a Delta catalog... all sorts of fans... they git some kilowatt + A.C. fans too, in the back... hardcore industrial shit
 
I'm in the data base, but I'm still playing with it. You only get 3 entries and I have 2 already, so I'll wait for my highest oc with reasonable temp before submitting. Right now I'm getting 3.51 ghz with these loud puppies and Orthos load temps at 56c with ambient air around 21c. Before, with just the Monsoon2, load temps were 66c, obviously higher than I'm comfortable with.
I have to say tho, after I post my next overclock, these things are coming OUT. They really are way too loud. My son came out of his room after I put them in and thought I was running the vacuum cleaner.
If I could run them with a rheostat, I'd leave em in, but they sap 30 watts apiece and commercially available fan controllers appear to not have the power to handle them. And I'm not gonna spend another $30 apiece to control them.

With that much fan power you might as well not use any heatsink with heatpipes because I doubt the heatpipes can transfer the heat that fast...

You should try it with the stock heatsink or a copper heatsink with no heatpipes.

edit: Also how loud are the 220cfm fans? just one? Cause I may plan on using just one. Would it be ok? or is it still a vacuum cleaner.

I already have a Tec heatsink and replaced the North/southbridges with active cooling, so I won't bother replacing them.
I don't think there's much difference in 1 fan and 6 fans, they are really loud!
 
If 2 similar noises of the same dB rating are heard at the same time, we say that the noise we hear is 3dB over the actual source.

So, with 6 fans, you're running at 15dB over the rated noise of the fan. If they're rated at 60dB, you're running at 75dB... About the level of a lawn mower :D.


You might not be able to percieve the difference in noise, simply because of the threshold of our hearing. For example, if you're holding 5lbs, and someone adds another 5lbs you notice it. If you're holding 50lbs and someone adds 5lbs, you probably wont :).
 
Have you tried running them at just 5V. If they start, they should provide a more silent operation.

Those fans are overkill for a hovercraft. If you have access to high energy density light weight batteries, a multichannel rc, make a model aircraft out of styrofoam with ducted fans, and vertical takeoff and thrust vectoring :D :p

That thing is a joke compared to some linked in this thread.
 
Back when I had my cooler master stacker 810, I thought seriously about mounting a home duct fan we had in my garage on it. Just for kicks of course, as it probably puts out about 3000cfm.

Never went through with it though..
