Looking to upgrade from a Socket 754

I just had my 3rd string system die on me which was
AMD Athlon 64 3400 on a Abit KV8 Pro 754 VIA K8T800

I'm looking to move my secondary system over to 3rd string, So I'm in the market for a new 2nd string PC. The old 2nd string was a S939 X2-3800 system, OC to 2.4.

I'm looking for a Board & Proc that will show an improvement over the X2-3800 but not cost an arm & a leg. I know I will have to buy new ram so I might as well go DDR3. The X2-3800 has a 9800GT that I plan to move over as well.

I'm looking to spend $300-350 if that is possible.

Just as an FYI, that socket 939 CPU is worth good money. If you sold the board/CPU/RAM, you could turn around and get a better setup with the money and spend no extra.

edit: ok, not worth as much as I thought it was, but still around 45$

you could sub the AthlonII 630 for same price but I eould try to unlock the 555 and they seem to OC nicely

do you have a frys or microcenter nearby? you could jump on their cheapest combo and it would still be faster then your setup

upgrade sempron 3300
I just did the same thing with my sempton 3300. Bought the combo in linked thread, using all other parts and will slowly upgrade as needed.

It's a little above your limit but that would be a guarenteed night and day difference for you. Especially if you can get the 955 to 4.0Ghz.

I didn't have time last night to post but also bought this combo to upgrade my garage system as well since it was running a P3 1.2 Pentium. I figure I'd just use the onboard video on this one. Is this going to be faster than that old X2-3800 & if so then I guess I will move that out to the garage.
