I'll Likely need a new router and can use DIR-655 for just wireless.

I'm looking to setup my own VPN mostly for fun but also mostly to mask my IP address and possibly try and stop Comcast from completely shutting down my internet when I torrent or download anything.

Using a CustomFirmware would also be fun so having that ability is a plus as well.

any good router suggestions or advice?

I'd suggest DD-WRT on a linksys. It support most of what you need for VPN, including OpenVPN, if I'm not mistaken.

Are you trying to connect to your own network from the outside world or connect to someone else's vpm from inside your network?

Primary objective is just creating the VPN to say yeah I created a VPN, and trying out different settings to possibly combat Comcast throttling. Accessing my my computer from work or at a friends house would be a nice side effect of having a VPN.

I don't plan on connecting to anyone else's VPN.
