I'm interested in getting into a multi proc boxen, I came across a matched pair of 6164 HE 12 cores, 1.7GHz for 200$. Is this worth picking up or am I better off waiting for a good deal on 6128's?

$200 each or for the pair?
HE chips "Should" be OV-able as well as OC-able, like the 6166HEs for a very nice boost.
That would be a good price for two, but let another expert here verify what I say.

I got my 6724 for $200 and my 2 x 6276 ES's for $220 each and my 6128 for $100
If thats $200 for the pair then thats a good buy.

looks like $200 for pair.... I would grab them actually all four for that price.
Should Over clock well.

No expert here but run 6166HE's Overclocked

Its a good price - $100 for a 12-core MC. I was considering this route a while ago. They would make for a nice machine.

I'm super tempted to chase the 6164's or your 6128's but I'm leary of the mobo costs involved with G34 >.<

True, but it is a buy it once cost.

The whole world of 61xx, 62xx, and 63xx chips will open to you with just one mobo.

I figure it is a decent deal.

As far as I know G34 will be used until Q3 - Q4 2014 when it is replaced by GC36.
AMD won't be releasing any more Opterons until the new socket.
So a G34 motherboard will not be outdated for quite a while.
