Looking on info for HP random drive failure on arrays

So I'm looking around to see if anyone here knows the case history of the random drive failures that occur on the P410 and P810 storage controllers. Evidently this bug affects all the HP hardware RAID storage controllers. I know that HP just released another firmware patch for this, but was looking for background information.

I tried to dig up some dirt on the HP business support forum, but it looks fairly sanitized.

Any comments of ideas?

Thanks,

Are you talking about hp branded/firmwared drives being used in hp supported/supplied enclosures, or about just buying a P4xx/8xx controller and using it in a non-hp supplied box with non-hp supplied drives?

HP support claims the problem is in the controllers. We have seen the issue on 7.2k, 10k and 15k HP branded SAS drives.

We have not tried it with another brand drives.

Would the problem happen to be in G7 servers (380, 580, etc?)

There were a run of dl380's with bad backplanes, but I haven't seen any wholesale problems with the p4xx/p8xx controllers in HP equipment with HP drives.

We have around 8 servers with P410's with an array of different drives, HP and non-HP.

Never had a single problem so far. Not a single failed disk.
