hi,
am looking to buy new laptop...am between 14.1" and 13.3"..

the onew with 14.1" looking at are Vaio CR,HP dv2500t,Dell inspiron 1420 and Vostro 1400
the cheapiest beein Dell for $1000..am confused is it worth it to pay extra $200 or $400 for the Vaio or the HP?

my favourite would be a 13.3" bt the MacBook is old not santa Rosa,i could only find a pre-configured toshiba U300 1.8 and 200GB low RPM 4700 for $1349!it looks great bt is it worth it? there is also the ASUS W7s bt am nt sure about Asus!

aybody has good pictures of the Vostro...is it thick?also the inspiron 1420?
any ther suggestions plz

ASUS makes great notebooks look at their A8J line (14")

What are you going to use the notebook for???

playing DivX but nt watching it on the tiny laptop screen bt using thevideo output...
n everyday use i guess thatsabt it :D

i wanna kind of good looking laptop coz i have HP Compaq nx7000 am sick of how it looks...

Hello,
The Vostro 1400 is the exact same laptop as the Inspiron 1420, except that it is painted black and is sold through small business. They're often cheaper than the inspirons. Personally I would avoid the dv2500t as many users report poor battery life, build, hinge design, heat, etc. How much are you willing to pay? If you can throw in around $1800-1900 and can wait maybe three weeks for the laptop, go for the Dell XPS m1330.
Go to notebookreview.com and forum.notebookreview.com they're a great site about notebooks. They're forum is very helpful.

if am going to pay 1800 i might as well take the Santa Rosa MacBokk pro with LED screen right?

na i guess 1000$ is more tha enough...wait next year for price drop on the LED screens n some new stuff...

so u think i go with the dell?Inspiron or Vostros?which one is better looking?

Well, no the macbook pro is 15.4"

Look at the Asus W7S at newegg. Other than the 8400m G and only 1gb of ram, it's a great laptop. There's not much of a difference in thickness between that and the inspiron/vostro (1.4" vs 1.5")
If you do decide to get the inspiron/vostro, here are some coupons http://www.notebookreview.com/dellCoupon.asp

I would go for the inspiron with a coupon unless you can get the vostro at a lower price.

How much does the vostro cost if you bump the operating system up to home premium? Definitely don't get basic.
The remote is a great little addition if you do powerpoint presentations or watch movies (small screen so you'll be sitting close though)
I think it's the same one that comes with the m1330 http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.engadget.com/media/2007/06/dell-xps-m1330-2.jpg

Do you do any gaming or anything graphically-intensive? If you don't then skip the 8400m GS. You'll get less battery life and more heat with it. Configure the vostro with vista home premium, the x3100, and then see how much the upgrade to a 7200rpm hard drive. If the total price is <50 more than your previous config, go for it

It's also cheaper to order 1gb of ram from dell, sell the ram on arrival, and then order 2gb of ram from newegg.com. Dell overprices their ram way too much. Go here http://forum.notebookreview.com/forumdisplay.php?f=12 for some vostro coupons and check out the Hot Ram Deals thread.

Another vote for the XPS1330! I just received mine today. This order was one of my fastest from Dell. Maybe the backorder problems have been cleared.

Ordered on the 18th - shipped on the 19th and received the 21st.
