Looking for suggestions

Hi guys - my better half's birthday is coming up pretty soon and she's in need of a new laptop so I figured I would fulfill that need.

I'm looking for something in the sub $1000 range that has the following features:
1) 802.11/a/b/g
2) 100GB+ HD
3) 1GB+ RAM
4) CD-RW/DVD-ROM (burner is a plus)
5) 3+ hours battery life
6) Light, <15" screen preferably.

Ideally I need something reliable as this needs to last (not be current obviously, but work) for the next 2 years while she finishes her degree.

I'm open to pretty much any brand so fire away!

Look at the ThinkPad T61 with the 14.1" screen. It starts at 800-something with a Core 2 Duo T8100.

Looking into that - looks promising actually.

I have the 15" model for work and it's quite reliable and has great battery life too.

Does anyone else have any recommendations for something perhaps around the $650 mark?
