Should I go with a brisbane instead??

Looking to overclock a little.

leaning towards the biostar tforce 550 for $65 after rebate.

I have a couple of the super Talent DDR2-667 sticks from a previous deal

and hope on keeping a Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro that I am currently using.

I could have sworn that I saw a 3800 with a cz in the product code just a couple days ago...

5200 or 6000+ best bang for buck I think. But if you just dont want to spend much AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ Brisbane $65.99 w/ free shipping from newegg.

wow, that is interesting. it completely disappeared.

i would go for the 5600+, it is a bit more expensive, but oh well :p

Hey, don't give up hope just yet. According to Nextag there are a number of places with it still in stock. [link]

Brisbanes are good but careful on buying the higher end models. I bought a 4800 off from newegg a few weeks back and it ended up being an older stepping then the 3600 x2 I bought when it was first released.

I read they did some new revisions to the core toward the end of June or July and I was hoping to get one of those. The 4800 maxed out only a few Mhz above the 3600 so it realy wasnt worth the extra $20. Im guessing everyone goes for the 3600 since its cheap, so youll probably get newer stepping going that route.

Thanks for the responses. I really appreciate the input!
(I am trying to get this orderd so I can have it for the weekend)

The 5600 is tempting, looks like some people are getting good speeds out of it
(well at least according to the newegg reviews).

The main reason I was going budget was that I don't really use my computer for anything really intensive.

BUT, it is always fun to try to get a setup for low $$$ and get it to run like the top of the line (expensive) stuff.

are there any particular motherboards of chipsets that seem to work particularly well with the 5600??

I did a quick search and am not finding anything in particular. most of the reviews are of early bios releases and I know some boards can really be transformed after a couple releases.

I have been out of touch for a bit...:p

AMD Athlon X2 BE-2350 , is in my opinion the only chip worth considering. The very best I have got with my Brisbane 4800+ is 3.2 at a push. The new chips are still Brisbanes but have more headroom. You should get 3ghz stable without too much effort and they cost about a third less

I just wish i waited a bit longer and got one myself.

i had posted the 3800 with CZ link a fews days back, i just checked newegg, they do not have it at all any more.

Found a ADO3800CZBOX

I have ordered from them before for non-pc stuff and everything went ok, so I thought I would give it a shot.

I thought prices went down the longer you waited????:p

question...

what is an x2 performance comparable to with intel when its overclocked to 3 ghz?

I brought a 5600+ from newegg about a couple months back and it is an F3

SantClara,,,,Microcenter,,,,,,,, has new bathches as of yesterdays shipment 5600+F3 CCB8F-0728SPMW:D

149.00

Highest stepping ive found . if you call them they will verify the batch numbers for you!

Instore price is same as online too. Also newest stepping on 6000+ as well! I m buyibg a second one tonight:D

I think I should have said " A Dirt Cheap F3" :p

I really wanted to get one of the $65 3800 f3's that seemed to be around until I went to buy one..

Happiness is proportional to Mhz per $ :D

I have a 5200+ EE (F3) that can do 3.34ghz @ 1.5V I can let go for $100 shipped if interested. Its OEM though. Send me a PM if interested.

Just to throw in my two cents worth, my 6000+ is cruzing along comfortably at 3.4 Ghz at just 1.425v.
I think they are about the best deal for the money !

why is it called "6000+" when you have to OC to reach 3.4 ?

is the "6000+" measuring VIA or Cyrix speed?

by the way that quite good.

How do any of the other chips you all stated beat the X2 BE-2350 for bang for buck??????

are you all in cloud cuckoo land?

X2 speeds (windsor):

3800+ 1.8GHz
4000+ 2.0GHz
4200+ 2.2Ghz
4400+ 2.2Ghz 1MB cache
4600+ 2.4Ghz 512 cache
4800+ 2.4Ghz 1MB cache
5000+ 2.6Ghz 512 cache
5200+ 2.6Ghz 1MB cache
5400+ 2.8Ghz 512 cache
5600+ 2.8Ghz 1MB cache
6000+ 3.0Ghz
6400+ 3.2Ghz

the X2 BE-2350 can reach 3ghz on stock voltage and with stock heatsink.

I thought I should post the results for the archives..:p

The 3800 F3 ended up being a ccbvf stepping

I went with the Biostar TF560 A2+

I started with the super talent ddr2 667 ram,

Then went to OCZ reaper ddr2 800 sticks.

Having some very odd problems with memory.

(Higher memory speeds work where lower ones won't)

This is a newer board base on the nvidia 560 chipset.

Hoping that a bios update will fix some of the issues.

Stable @ 290htt, memory on the 533 divider, ht x 3

cpu @ 2.9 ghz and 1.2 volts -chipset @ 1.275v Memory@ 2.15 volts

Thanks for all the input!
