Hey, I was wondering if anybody had any good suggestions for any strategy games out now or coming out soon. Thanks.

Rome Total War

and soon the expansion, Barbarian Invasion is out.

Its freakin awesome.

Yeh, Total War if you havent tried it. Nice large scale battles with funky graphics.

Or if you havent played Starcraft yet, then for the love of god play it cause its freakin awesome :p

Soldiers: Heroes of WWII
Rome : TW and the upcoming expansion
Ground Control 2

Upcoming:
Age of empires III
And the new Chris Taylor one.....the name escapes me at the moment.

Of course if you haven't ever played it, I highly recommend the Myth Series by bungie, my favorite RTS of all time.

I'm really looking forward to both Supreme Commander as well as Sword of the Stars. Which is more of a hybrid Turn based/RTS game.

another vote for rome total war.

Ground control 2 was a fun game, but i stopped playing because of stability reasons, someone mentioned it before, has there been any progress on the stability front?

Warhammer 40k Dawn of War. One of my favorite strategy games.

I'm not much into RTS, but I like Dawn of War. It's the most popular RTS at the LANs I run - It's fun, pretty well balanced (not perfect). It's worth the buy.

Peace,
Tim

I played it through, and never had it crash...I think i patched it, but I can't remember.

You didn't mention what you've played, so I'm going back aways. I'm a fan of the homeworl series (1, Cataclysm, 2). Just because it's slower paced, sci-fi themed, and adds a third dimension.. some of those missions are dmaned hard though if you pick a bad strategy - like using all capital ships with no strikecraft. And big lasers are always pretty to look at.

If you're looking for smaller character based strategy..there's always Freedom Force and the sequel: Third Reich...especially if you like characters

Well I have played Warcraft 1,2,3+expansion. Gosh I must have been in like 2nd or 3rd grade when I first played warcraft if I'm gonna be a junior in hs. wow lol. Starcraft + expansion, Age of empires 2. As far as strategy goes I believe that is it. Thanks.

I will cast my vote for Medieval total war :p has a different focus than rome, world map over battle map.

good civil war game not many know about. The Battle of Bull Run - Take Command: 1861. only $20.

i'm waiting for the sequel which is in the works and will not take advantage of dual core :D

Some company should make a real dating sim(not those porn ones on newgrounds) that shit is all crazy ass strategy.

What about supreme commander? The few screenshots I saw looked amazing and if it builds on the gameplay of total annihilation it should be pretty good.

I would stick with a proven winner....like the AOE series.
Age of Empires 2 comes out in a few weeks.....

All I remember is building about 20 castles and pumping out war elephants. Those were the days! 56k, sunday afternoon wars?!? SAWWWEEEET :D

Empire Earth
Rise of Nations
Empire Earth 2

Greatest RTS games ever created.

Rehashes imo.

I get so tired of RTS games that stick with the same ole' formula , AOE, RON, EE, etc.

They have their differences, but at the core they are very very similar in terms of how they play.

Why on earth can those type of strategy games not bring their combat to a lv they seem to put on the economy, etc side?

Look at games like Myth and Total war, THEY HAVE the combat that strategy games should have. Yet games like Ron/AOE/EE, etc still have their damn "2d" almost feeling combat that boils down to nothing more then rock/paper/scisscors.

WCIII, AOM, AOE, EE, RON, they all feel like simply re-hashes of the early AOE games and others, with a few differences.

I hated Rome Total War.

Go with Rise of Nations or wait for Age of Empires 3. There are some more coming later this year and early next year too.

errr, Starcraft is masterful game that lives FAR FAR past its time.
Its too bad about 90% of people have hax and can anticipate your sneaky lurker drops or reaver drops....otherwise i might still play it from time to time...

...and that's why I like them all. Empire Earth II is my current favorite, and Rise of Nations is a close one too. I like them because they're just different enough to be different games (obviously), but not so different that I feel like I have to relearn everything. That's not to say that I don't like a twist every now and again--I definitely do. But I'm not shutting the door on the games either.

Of course, one of my all-time favorite games is still Castles II. :D

I got rome:total a few weeks ago, and it is an incredible game. Very deep strategy, the battles can sometimes get frustrating because getting the troops to line up how you want might take a little bit more finessing than you think it should.

Another quite interesting thing is that the game is quite historically accurate...the cities are in the right places, the different factions go where they really went in history (scipio vs carthage, julius vs the gauls). Of course it isn't all historically accurate, but it is neat how close it is.

If you dont like that style of game then RON or AOE are nice.

Count me in the camp that thought TA was head and shoulders above SC in terms of gameplay, units, and available strategies/tactics.

That is why I cannot wait until SupCom is released.
