Looking for a good adventure game with eye candy

I managed to land one of those shiny new NVidia cards, so now I'm looking to see what it can do. The CoD game that came with it isn't my thing. I mostly play RPGs and strategy games, but like adventure and puzzle games once in a while and I'm kind of in the mood for one. Anyone have any suggestions on what's good and pretty? Bonus if it supports ray tracing. Shadow of the Tomb Raider seems like the obvious one, but any other suggestions?

Cyberpunk comes to mind as something with ray tracing and lots of eye candy, and it's at least somewhat RPG style play

I recommend Obduction. Its got some pretty great art direction. Its a little rough around the edges. But a couple of additions from reshade (ambient occlusion, SMAA, ambient light effect), help pull it together nicely. Its a cool game, with a really good sense of place.

The ending is an absolute let down, as its practically a non-ending. But the entire game before it is worth it. Here are some non spoiler screens I took with a Radeon 7870, about two years ago. The game really ends up going places. But I will leave that for your discovery!

Another cool one is Observation. Its less than a handful of hours. But worth it.

Outer Wilds won't impress, visually. But, if you are looking for a good adventure game, its pretty great.

Observation looks rather intriguing. I don't think I've played a game as a computer before. I'll keep those in mind. Of course I'll probably pick up Tomb Raider at some point just because I've enjoyed the previous ones I've played.

As for Cyberpunk, it's definitely on my list but I'm going to try to hold off on it for a bit until it gets debugged and patched. If the Witcher series is any indication it'll be a much better game in a year or two when the "Game of the Year Edition" or whatever they decide to call it comes out with all the patches and DLC bundled up together.

Death Stranding. <-- Really a climbing/traversing game with a bit of an interesting story, minor horror, and some combat.

Horizon Zero Dawn.

Metro Exodus.

Deus Ex Human Revolution & Mankind Divided (older but worth mentioning).

Metro might be too much of a shooter for you but a worthwhile mention.

Cyberpunk 2077 without a doubt, it's fantastic if you have a decent gaming PC. Note though that with all the RTX effects on it can be very taxing even on the new video cards.

I'll have a look at those. I'm not anti-first person or shooting, just not into full time pew-pew games. All shooting gets boring fast. Oops I messed up and got into a gun fight is just fine. Really I just want a mix of stuff in a game and hopefully a good story line.

Cyberpunk is definitely in my queue. I will buy it and play it. I'm just going to wait a bit so it can get some patches. If the Witcher series is any indication I should try to hold out until the big bundle with all the patches and DLC comes out. I'll probably cave before then... unless Elder Scrolls VI comes out first. Theoretically that can't happen right now because a new Elder Scrolls game always costs me a grand or so in hardware and if it dropped right now I wouldn't have enough to upgrade.

I'm in pretty good shape with the RTX stuff. My wallet isn't happy about it, but I can run it. After chasing everything else that would work at 4k I ended up with a 3090. Waste of money, but screw it. I figure if there's ever a time to go big if you can get it at MSRP it's the winter of Covid when you can't buy a GPU and everything is closed. I tried to buy a 3080. Struck out. Same with the 6800XT. 6900Xt launch day rolls around and I got to the payment screen a couple times. Then amd.com broke and cookie banned me. Clear cookies, start over. Still no luck. Then I checked out bestbuy.com. 3080s available. Not quite quick enough when the button turned yellow. Then some 3090s popped up. Got an EVGA XC3 Ultra Gaming 3090 in my cart and checked out. Picked it up at Best Buy a couple days later.

If you haven't played Subnautica, you should give that a try. The visuals area a little behind, at this point. But it still all comes together nicely. and its a pretty darn good game. However, I recommend playing the game mode where you don't have to worry about food and water. Its absolutely tedious.

But without food and water management, you are free to focus on the core elements of exploring and gathering materials to build yourself better stuff to use and explore further.

The sequel is almost out of early access, too. There isn't an exact release date yet for the full version 1.0. but it sounds like January/February 2021. Subnautica: Below Zero. Price goes up $10, on January 5th, In preparation for the full release.

It's not going to push a 3090 to its limits, but Inside is free on the Epic store still. Fits your 'adventure/puzzle' requirement and it still looks great.

Metro Exodus

Rage 2

Hellpoint

The Surge 2

Borderlands 3

Mechanicus Warhammer

Code Vein

Maneater

Watch Dogs Legion

Baldur's Gate 3 except it's in EA so your save might go poof.

it's on sale right now Dec 25 2020 for $9 on Steam

so is Observation as a bundle with Untold Stories for $10

Immortals Fenyx Rising is really good. Very open world not sure if you would like that but there's lots of puzzles etc. It also looks very very good.

Horizon Zero Dawn is the best one I played lately and replayed twice. Play story mode first time through. Love the story and concept earth 1000 years later. Great visuals too. You will like it.

Any of the new Tomb Raiders works for me :)

Like the screenshots from Obduction - will consider it
