Looking for a gaming chair.

Stop wasting your money on "gaming chairs" Especially ones that compare to "racing" chairs. Racing chairs, as they hint below. Racing chairs and design is NOT meant for comfort, it is meant to hold you in a stiff position and lock you down.

That's funny, because I prefer my "gaming" chair to any short-back task/office chair I've sat in. Including my own brother's $1500 Aeron.

I like tech Jesus but I don't need him to tell me I shouldn't buy a "gaming" chair. My $600 leather noblechair was well worth the money. It fits me like a glove and I don't care about the dumbass argument over semantics.
 
Herman Miller Embody.

It's designed to support but not push back on your body too hard. I can comfortably sit in it for 10hrs +.

Likewise. Steve Shit-On-Everything Burke can kick rocks. My Secretlab Omega is the most comfortable office chair I've ever used.

I've been looking at both of these what model/finish/material did you get and how long have you had them?
My concern has been the longevity of the material especially the leather, my last one I got was the Maxnomic and it was a great and comfortable chair but the PU leather only lasted about 3-4 years before it started cracking and flaking.
And of course they dont offer the ability to buy the seat by itself, you have to buy a whole new chair, that really turned me off of it.
(I do sit on my foot a lot so that adds to the stress of the material tbf)

I've had mine a few months now and I got the softweave fabric. I don't like leather, doesn't breathe enough for me. Thus far the chair still looks new, but it's not very old so that doesn't say much.
 
just came back to report on my Logitech Herman miller embody chair. Im still loving this chair. i literally can sit in the thing 12+ hours. So far still worth every penny spent on it.
 
I like the Aeron because in July and August during the mid afternoons it can get fairly warm in my office unless I make the rest of upstairs too cold. I don't notice this unless I'm sitting in one of the leather movie watching chairs though because the Aeron breathes very nicely. A part of it broke via me leaning over the side to pet cats and dogs and the local dealer had me take a picture of the broken piece and the next week some dude came with it and installed it. I have the aftermarket headrest on it but almost never use it. don't have any gimpy vertebrae or lumbar etc so can't comment on how well it deals with that. The only back problem I have is a muscle that tore in high school football and never healed quite right that sometimes cramps on top of a nerve and it is extremely painful. That hasn't happened with this chair since it came in the mail on 9/23/14.

Cats also seem disinterested in clawing at the mesh, I like that too.
 
I tried getting my fat ass comfortable in a "Racing chair". It was horrible. Hard as a rock with no comfort and the ass padding felt like a big dildo wanted to make it's way up. Once I got in it, I could'nt get my ass out of it without my son helping pry my butt out. Worse chair ever. I'm looking into the ergonomic office chair instead. Don't get me wrong, I think the Racing chair has potential, but for a guy my size @ 6'1" and 225, ain't no way it's meant for me. Now for those boney people with no ass, I'm sure it's comfy.

I'm not sure which chair you are referring to. We are almost the same size. I'm shorter and weigh slightly more than you do and I rarely have trouble with chairs like that. (6ft, 235lbs.) The only one I had trouble with one was of the earlier Corsair chairs which was simply too small.

Maybe the one I was trying at staples was for girls or midgets. Was quite narrow and the padding was hard. Sale's kid said that was the largest they had. I've been stuck using an exec's office chair for the past 10 years. My ass is crying for new padding.
 
The OP says that they went through a bunch of OfficeDepot/Max chairs over the years. I bought a Quantum 9000 mesh from Office Depot in 2008 for I think $430, I'm still sitting in it as I type this. I use this for at least 4 hours every day. I weigh 160lbs. All these years later and the arm rests are just starting to degrade, literally the best chair I've ever owned. Now, I want to buy the executive chair version because I want a head rest.

I don't understand the entire gaming chair craze, all of them are shite.

Secretlabs Chair are your best bet here. I've used ME7ERG as well in the past but like yours mines fell apart rather quickly.

I went with the Quantum 9k. After a couple of weeks of getting used to it, I like it. The arm rests are a little wonky as they are adjustable sideways but its not a big deal. Good packing from the factory and chair went together rather easily in about 20 minutes.
 
I'm in the market, too. This is one of several threads I've found quite helpful. Like many of us, I don't have any easy options for "go and demo and try out the chairs before buying." I wish. Any tips for making some good decisions? My budget is: I am willing to swing as far as Herman Miller and the like if need be.

Ergonomics and back support are priority one.

I've now used the following for extended periods, for both gaming and office/productivity work. Here's my experience over the past 4-5 years...

Background: I'm 6', 96kg/212lbs/16stone with an athletic (powerlifter) build. I have back issues from two recurring herniated L4/L5, L3/L4 discs (old sports injuries). Lower back support and ability to alternate incline positions matters for me, above all.
  • Noble Hero
  • Anda Kaiser II
  • Razer Iskur
  • Xrocker "Torture Device" (generic brand)
Out of the above, the Anda was by far the most comfortable for up to 2 hours. It has the most amount of cushion that doesn't have too much give. The Noble Hero, while not as comfy for medium sessions, was slightly more comfortable for long-term. The above chairs, however, have all been sold or sit collecting dust... In line with feedback from most who've taste tested gaming and office chairs, quality ergonomic office chairs are far superior for extended use. I have and use these daily, and wouldn't go back to a "gaming" chair:
  • Steelcase Please 2 leather - My favorite chair, got it refurbed for $300. Support is all-around perfect. I'd describe it as less of a "comfy" chair (in my experience "comfy"=bad for your body) and more of an extension of your body when properly adjusted. Great number of adjustments. Arms are wide enough for my shoulders, but not so wide I feels like I'm doing a funky chicken. I don't sit long enough and the climate here doesn't get so hot that the leather gets warms, but I'd probably have gone for the mesh version if it did -- as it is, the leather looks class, and you can definitely tell the difference from the PVU on most gaming chairs. I did not opt for the headrest version since I never use one. Constructed like a tank, it weights on 70lbs: I'll likely be buried with this chair.
  • Herman Miller Aeron - A superb office chair (what's not been said already), but a bit too much give/not enough support for me. I also find the controls less intuitive and fiddly than on the Please where everything is exactly where I expect it and can make adjustments with my eyes closed.
  • SIHOO office chair (ubiquitous model on Amazon) - Not as solid as the Steelcase or Herman Miller, but it gets you 95% of the options and comfort for 40% of the price new of those brands. Surprisingly good, and still beats the pants off any "gaming" chair for extended use.
In the end, I feel like a bit of a schlub (and wasteful) having gone through multiple gaming chairs when I should have stuck with a tried-and-true

I got a Karnox Legend TR 2 years ago - needed something nice for my new Covid office. Two weeks ago, it developed a relatively minor creak when I shifted my weight on it. I tightened all the bolts, which helped a little, but I got to the point where I emailed support since I had like 2 weeks left in the warranty - thinking they might send me some replacement parts or something. They got back with me quick, asked for my Amazon order number and my address. I figured it was to verify I was still within warranty.

A day or two later I was informed that they were sending me a new chair. Very impressed and surprised with Karnox. I'm sitting in it now and it looks like they upgraded the strut/base somewhat (nothing major). But hey, I got a $280 chair for free so I am happy. I'll donate the old one to a family member.

Coincidentally *this* SIHOO caught my eye the other day, but then noticed pretty much all the reviews were from people that got the chair free through VINE. Looks like a decent chair with the features I want (mesh back, headrest, ergonomic), but not giving $800 to a chinese company for the privilege of being the only sucker that actually paid money for it.

And I can vouch first hand for the quality and comfort. It's not Herman Miller, but it beats many other higher priced office chairs I've used. It was in my conservatory office until my wife commandeered it as her own.
 
Sitting in a Steelcase Gesture for the past 3 years and it's been a very good chair. It's not a La-Z-Boy but that's kind of the point. Still looks and feels new after 3 years.

The Gamers Nexus video on gaming chairs is pretty accurate. Those things are uncomfortable cash grabs. We have a couple in the office for some reason (someone must have requested them) and they really are like sitting in a concrete "L".
 
Hmm I've had a very different experience. I am using a 2022 Secret Lab chair. Went from a Gesture to a Secret Lab because the Gesture gave me back pain. Not sure if it's because I always reclined in it at an angle rather than sit upright. I tried adjusting the back support numerous times but sadly my back pain did not alleviate. So now I am happily using a Secret Lab 2022 chair. Although my butt does start hurting after 4 hours. The seat is not the softest but at least I can recline in it. I guess it just depends on your specific usage. If you prefer to lean back and recline, an ergo chair may not be for you.

I contacted SecretLab that day (Tuesday night) and asked if they could send me a new one. They responded that night and said they would, and to watch my e-mail for shipment notification. I never got the notification e-mail - I DID get the right armrest today, however, about four days after contacting them. So... in my mind, that kinda makes them the best.

The chair is fantastic. Looking forward to enjoying it for many years.
