Long time and loyal iPhone user thinking about making the switch

yea, i don't talk that much. 6000 minutes on a cell phone is 4.166 days STRAIGHT on a cell phone. you've got the gift of gab, i'll give you that.

I haven't had 5,000 - 6,000 minutes in a couple years. I am in construction sales for custom home builders. When the market was booming my phone would start ringing at 6:30am and pretty much not stop until 5:30pm. Mon - Fri.

Now it has cut down a lot. Haven't checked lately but I guess I am only at 2,000 - 2,500 minutes a month now.

But still need the unlimited plan.

so went to the Sprint store today and the wife and I checked out the Evo. Looks fantastic (I've played with it before), but it was her first.

I personally like the iPhone (not love, but really like) and I think the 4th version will be killer as well. Much like anything in life, the devil is in the details.

Specifically the service from AT&T versus Sprint. The service in Phoenix with AT&T has really improved, so little to complain on that end.

The cost difference for me is going to be about $750 over 2 years (2 phones, family plan). This includes about $175 of ETF with AT&T. So, money wise, it makes sense to switch. It is not a trivial amount, but in all due honesty, I expected the difference to be more. The $10 Evo charge (x2) really made the difference ($480 / 2 years)

So, bottom line? Same as before. I've got to trial the Sprint service to make sure it works where I work. Looking forward to it. Going to do that once I get back from vacation.

As far as the battery goes it might last 24 hours on standby.... We had it idling(mostly) - maybe 10 minutes of talk time - all day on Saturday from about 8am to 3am and it was at 12% when it was plugged back in. This is with 4g disabled. Not terrible, especially considering the battery is replaceable, but it is something to consider.

24 hrs standby time is 1/2 to 1/3 most other smartphones.

Guess I'm just used to it... I have to charge my iPhone every night, but it is pretty old (1st gen).

My idle time wasn't much until I turned a bunch of stuff off like google talk.

There's also a CDMA thing you do so that it's not constantly looking for a GSM antenna.

iPhone & ATT suck together

Nexus One + TMobile (scary but actually faster in the NYC/NJ metro area)

TMobile is kinda crappy but surprisingly has insane 3G coverage compared to ATT in Times Square area where I work

So after using it for about a week the battery life lasts about 8am-5pm without supplemental charging. This is with 4g turned off and very light use - a few texts, maybe 20mins of browsing. The phone itself is incredible, but I'm going to wait and read some reviews on the Droid X battery life before I make the jump myself.

I really like my Evo except for Sprint in my particular neighborhood/work area. If this phone were on verizon it would be perfection for me.

I've made some adjustments and the battery lasts me from 8:20am when I take it off the charger until midnight when I plug it back in. I do a lot of texting throughout the day, but hardly any calls.
