lite-on reads only audio cd

my friend's computer cd drive decided to read audio files only, any other cd that has any file typr except audio wont read it (frive's light keeps flashing), the OS is winxp pro.

your help appreciated.

how old is the drive?
has it been used heavily?
If its old or has been used heavily, remove any dust you can see off the laser head carefuly and use a cotton bud lightly dipped in alcohol to clean it.

the drive is about one year old and it was not used heavily, I have purchased TDK cd/dvd cleaner but could not solve the problem.

I can not access the laster head unless I take the drive out and open the cover, is there any recommended cd cleaner?
