I made a list of (B350, B450, X370, and X470) motherboards with USB BIOS Flashback

This feature allows your to update the BIOS ***without*** a processor, memory, or video card.

USB BIOS Flashback comes in handy if you are, for example, going to use 3rd gen Ryzen and the motherboard doesn't have the updated BIOS to support the processor.

These information was obtain from the motherboard manufacturers' websites and may be incomplete or inaccurate.

Leave comment below if want to report corrections.

***ASRock (BIOS Flashback)***

None!

***ASUS (USB BIOS Flashback)***

ASUS Crosshair VI Extreme

ASUS Crosshair VI Hero

ASUS Crosshair VI Hero (Wi-Fi AC)

ASUS Crosshair VII Hero

ASUS Crosshair VII Hero (Wi-Fi)

***Gigabyte (Q-Flash Plus)***

None!

***MSI (Flash BIOS Button)***

MSI B450 Gaming Plus

MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC

MSI B450 Tomahawk

MSI B450-A Pro

MSI B450M Bazooka Plus

MSI B450M Gaming Plus

MSI B450M Mortar

MSI B450M Mortar Titanium

MSI X370 Gaming M7 ACK

MSI X370 XPower Gaming Titanium

MSI X470 Gaming M7 AC

These will support Ryzen 9?

I’m looking for a b450 board to run it when thr cpu comes out.

B450s and X470s will supposedly support Ryzen 9.

X370s and B350s will depend on the manufacturer to support it

Thanks for posting this thread. For some reason I thought I read the GA x470 Aorus Gaming supported QFLASH Plus. It doesn't. It is mentioned in the manual for some reason which is dumb if it doesn't support it, since that is where I read about it.

Hey guys! Might be a dumb question here, but I’m going to ask it anyway because I don’t fully understand how this process works. I’m upgrading from my current i5 4670K to Ryzen 3700x, and I’m intending to buy either a B450 or X470 board, haven’t decided yet, but given that I don’t currently have a Ryzen to boot and flash, would I have to essentially limit my options to one of these boards listed above? I presume you need to flash the BIOS first before it will allow you do really do anything with the Ryzen 3700x installed due to a lack of compatibility?

Pretty much yes to what you are asking. Just make sure the board you are buying actually supports that CPU at all first.

So it's great that so many MSI boards will let you update the BIOS without a compatible CPU installed. The problem is that they have basically no working BIOS updates for Ryzen 3000 CPUs for any B350/X370/B450/X470 boards. The MSI subreddit is not a happy place right now.

Not sure what you’re talking about. This is just a wrong statement. They have a fairly large list of updated boards. I updated my x470 gaming pro carbon with no issue and am running a 3800x now.

The boards get a simplified bios GUI but it’s still 100% just as functional. You don’t lose features.

MSI dropped the ball with it, numerous boards the beta bios was/is not functional and bricked the boards. There are also NUMEROUS boards where there is no bios available as of yet (b350 tomahawk, b350 tomahawk arctic etc)

There’s literally a link to the B350 tomahawk, and arctic on that bios page I linked to.

I’m aware some users are having issues, but your statement of bios updates not being available for 3000 series support is patently false.

Well, if the bios updates don't actually address the problem and provide 3000 series support even if they claim to, there isn't a bios update available to provide a working system.

No,

the tomahawk and tomahawk arctic are not listed, the listed boards are:
B350 TOMAHAWK PLUS
B350M MORTAR ARCTIC

They are different. I got excited initially too when I saw this, but the tomahawk, tomahawk plus, b350m tomahawk arctic, and tomahawk arctic are all different boards unfortunately and use different bios.
