Lies Of P

Well I just got past the second major boss and made it to a certain factory...and I am freaking loving this game. While it's not open levels like Dark Souls I definitely get that vibe when going through the levels. Then I found and played my first record and listened to nearly the whole thing. Was hauntingly beautiful. Starting to get a hang of combat. Checkpoints are very fair. Really digging it so far.

That is how far I am only just got to the Shield Boss killed him then saved after that.

I started a new playthrough last night, I'm enjoying it more the 2nd time around. I'm about to fight the 3rd boss. I should get through 3-4 bosses tonight when I get home.

I think the patch made the game easier, I see why people on the Steam forums are complaining that it's ez mode now. But it still offers a decent challenge (I play without specters, not sure how much easier it is for people who use them). I probably won't definitively know the game is easier now until the mid-late game.

Hopefully they don't make the game any easier since the area before the first boss offered zero challenge at all. But it could be because it's my 2nd playthrough. No I didn't do NG+, might do that next run.

I can't believe they caved so early and made it easier. They should have just made a difficulty selector at the beginning.

I wouldn't call it easy, like brainless easy. It's about as easy as Dark Souls games. Also this is my 2nd playthrough so I pretty much know what to expect everywhere I go.

sad that they nerfed the difficulty...From Software never caves to the casuals...they do some rebalancing of weapons and enemies but not to any major degree which totally changes the experience

True, because the really punishing difficulty didn't start until around mid game for me anyway, when you starting encountering the one-time and larger enemies. The first few chapters you can pretty much roll through, then at the end of chap.3 (I think) when you hit Fuoco was where it started to get a little brutal.

I actually first timed the Brother Jack Rabbit boss, 3 times for the White Lady, and had to dick around with Mad Clown Puppet a bit, but still not to bad. None of those bosses were affected by the patch and also no summons available for those fights. I also first timed KoP, but I summoned for that because I don't really care about ego points for this type of shit. I haven't really been playing to much. I can only handle about an hour or so of this at a time, otherwise I start to get a little impatient.

Something unrelated but I think the Lords of the Fallen is literally going to be a walk in the park compared to LoP, as the devs themselves have stated that they wanted to make the game more accessible for first timers, in hopes of drawing in a more people to the souls like experience.

I finally beat this POS. Seems like most people are having trouble with this SOB. Phase 2 of this boss is basically Malenia 2.0 and renders great weapon builds pretty much useless.

it took me over 50 tries to beat Malenia in Elden Ring...now I can beat her pretty regularly without any issue...that's the satisfying part of the Souls formula...overcoming a difficult challenge...if every boss was easy and could be beaten in 2-3 tries then it makes the fights boring

Gonna be honest...fighting a boss 50 times sounds miserable. You love the challenge and I get that but that would make me quit.

The game is easier than last patch, but probably still the most difficult game of its kind (SoulsBorne/Souls-like). So personally I wouldn't dismiss it as easy without playing it.

I watched Ironpineapples video in post #165 last night and agree with most of what he said.

Good for them! I thought this would be a game I would play just to pass the time until Lords of the Fallen but ended up absolutely loving it. Now I don't want it to end
I agree, thats kind of what I thought it would be a "filler" game, I actually didn't like it very much my first time through but I was kind of skipping the story stuff since I thought of it as a "filler" game, but after I finished the game the first time I found out that I missed the true final boss (because I was skipping everything), so I replayed it and absolutely loved it the 2nd time through, then I played it again after that lol. It's probably one of the best games I've played all year if not the best. I'm thinking of going back to it to finish the last few achievements, I'm not an achievement hunter or anything, I just like the game.

Started running new game+ and I gotta say the whole thing is much more enjoyable, pretty much steamrolling through it tbh. I finished my initial playthrough at level 98 and now am just under Lv120. I farmed a bit on new game initially because I was struggling my ass off and was desperate for any points to put in hp and damage, so I might've finished at a higher level than some.

That's not to say it's not challenging anymore, but I mean now you got a much more kitted out 'P' and the experience of what to expect (and how to actually play the game much more so). I'd say the learning curve here is like no other tbh, and still think some stuff is a little overdone. Some bosses have way to many movesets and unpredictable patterns, long ass combos, delayed/instant attacks, ridiculous aoe and incredibly long melee range. I think the whole game feels a little to RNGy. It's really demanding of the player, but I guess that's the evolution of the genre, really.

I had Scrapped Watchman beat like 3 times and then he goes and does a grab move and pretty much oneshots you with damn near full HP because you can't tell if it's just a delayed attack or not, so you stand there ready to block but you just get screwed over :banghead: . Then hes got 2 different fury attacks one is easily escapable and one will pretty much aimbot you where ever your at, so died again with like 2-4 hit to go.

Fuoco took me four or five tries compared to the absurdity of the first time through (this fight feels pretty tame now really). I'm still making many mistakes, oh well. Honestly though the game seems kinda easy now, but I know I'm going to end up eating those words lol! I already know some of the later bosses with dual phases are still going to be some real bs to get through. Possibly (probably) won't be able to do some without the scepter but I don't really care. I'm not throwing myself endlessly to get through them anymore. I'll give them a dozen tries or so and if I still can't do it, I'll summon.

So yeah new game+ has sorta been the saving grace for me because this shit was really wearing me out, and I pretty much swore I was done with it. But ng+ modes are always much more fun to run through. Perhaps just to get a little revenge!!!

Lies of P Is Getting Balance Tweaks, DLC and a Sequel

In a new video Lies of P director Ji Won Choi revealed some of the balance changes that will be introduced with the next game update due later this month

Firstly, certain blades and handles will be buffed so that they can be properly used in the Weapon Assemble system...NEOWIZ also plans to ease the difficulty of Lies of P in the game's early stages by making the Rising Dodge move available as a default skill...moreover, the NPC merchant Polendina (the personal puppet of Antonia and the receptionist of Hotel Krat) will sell two additional Quartz from the first stage of his shop

Visual customization will be improved, too...the community had requested the ability to wear glasses and hats at the same time, and the developers are complying by introducing a dedicated slot for facial accessories

The Director's Letter also looked to the future, confirming that a Lies of P DLC is on the way, showing a couple of concept arts of a crashed ship and underwater base as teases...the director also briefly confirmed that a sequel will be made, even though it'll likely take years before its released...NEOWIZ is also preparing the launch of the Lies of P soundtrack, which will feature more than 60 tracks from the game...

I'm not into soulslikes at all, but I saw some playthrough over the weekend (x hours for Alienware points :ROFLMAO: ). The atmosphere is really well done, and the music / sound is also pretty great. Reminds me a bit of American McGee's Alice (the art / atmosphere at least).

It really is fantastic! Definitely up there with Surge 2 and Nioh 1/2 for the my favorite Soulslikes.

if I play the Game Pass PC version will it allow me to install mods (from Nexus Mods)?...I want to install a mod that allows me to use the arrow keys for movement when using kb/m

not trying to sound like a broken record, but autohotkey is your friend. If you haven't figured out how to use it, I don't know how as it is not difficult in the slightest to use, I'll tell you again:

1. Download the latest version of autohotkey - its probably on the internet somewhere (y)
2. Install
3. On your desktop make a new text file and name it Arrow_Keys.txt and save it
4. Open Arrow_Keys.txt and add the following lines:
Up::W
Down::S
Left::A
Right:: D
5. Save and close the file again.
6. Rename the .txt file extension to .ahk ---- Obviously you need to have the windows option, 'Hide extensions for known files types' disabled in order to do this. The Icon will change to be associated with the program.
7. Double click the file to launch it, A green icon with an H should be seen running in the taskbar.
8. Congrats. Your arrow keys are now w,a,s, and d.

No need for any mods, though I don't see why they wouldn't work for the game pass version.

I find mods like the one I used from Nexus Mods even easier to use...just install the mod, place it into the game directory and bam it works...I used a mod for Jedi: Survivor when it was first released to enable arrow keys for movement...

^Fair enough, I'm saying though you could've been running this game day 1 with the AHK method.

is this method game specific or will it work universally with any games that don't allow you to remap the movement keys to WSAD?...I'm guessing it'll work with all games

with that method you described it'll work for any key I want to remap using the same text?...so if the game uses right shift for block and I want to use Z for block I just type 'Block::Z' and save it in that Keys.ahk file?...I can also remap to any of my 5 mouse buttons as well using that program?

the remapped keys are also universal and don't just apply to games...so once I quit the game I need to remove that file otherwise the remapped keys will apply to normal Windows functions as well right?

well you'd do z::shift to make the z key act as shift. You can exit out of the script at any time and also there is a pause and suspend hotkeys setting in there, just right click on the icon running in the taskbar.

You can make your mouse buttons work but they would have to be set to keystrokes in your mouse driver settings to begin with. Instead of Mouse4 or 5 or whatever, you'd need to make Mouse4 a key on your keyboard.

Just re-subbed to Gamepass and the first thing I installed and played was this. I've only played just past the hotel and it's honestly been pretty easy so far as I almost beat the first boss on my first try and walloped him on my second (after swapping from the heavy sword to the balanced sword which seems quite a bit better). I've been going the standard Souls-like route of pumping almost everything in to HP with a few levels in to damage. Are there any gotchas or noob traps that I need to be mindful of in regards to spending currency, equipment upgrades, or anything?

Being a Souls vet you probably know this but do not cash in the boss ergos as they will eventually be able to be traded in for very cool weapons. Definitely a fantastic game. Right up there with Nioh 1/2 and Surge 2 for the best Souls-like imo.

I'm tempted to get this during the current Steam sale ($47.99) but I really want to hold out till it drops under $35...does Lies of P have high replay value?...does it have pvp like the Souls game?

or I might just play it on PC Game Pass for the time being while I wait for a more significant price drop

There's no online play in the game. Replayability comes from the choices you make and build options. Also I missed a boss my first playthrough (the final boss lol), so that made me replay it. A single playthrough is about 35 hours.

It could potentially go on sale for $35 at the winter sale if you wanted to hold out. I bought it on sale at release because I was hesitant, I got it 17% off on Fanatical. After playing it though I kind of felt like I should have paid full price since it's pretty much the best game I've played since Elden Ring.
