I've just found this item at tftcentral. Inside, LG announces 3 new IPS models, two 24", and one 22" named W2420R, W2420P and W2220P respectively.

The W2420R is your usual deal, 12-bit LUT, wide gamut, priced to compete with NEC and Eizo.

Now, what interests me is the W2420P. Lacking said colour management features, and priced at a mere 400 euro, this could be an sRGB screen to complement its big brother. The press release doesn't appear to explain what gamut it uses. Though, this was said:

"With the W20 series, we are serving both graphics beginners and users with professional demands”
I find this quite interesting. In fact, i was surprised to find no results when i searched this forum for related threads.

So is the W2420P 16:9 or 16:10? The description contradicts itself saying it is has a resolution of 1920x1200 and that it's a 1080p IPS.

edit - Nvm, I think it's referring to the W2220P.

Even that makes no sense, because the W2220P is apparently 1920*1200 as well.

1920x1200 can display 1080p fully because 1200 > 1080, where as 1680x1050 cannot.

So there's a strong possibility that the W2420P and the W2220P might be e-IPS? The msrp is pretty affordable.

I hope they also come to NA.

That's for the dumb mass that believes "1080P" is better than 1920x1200

1200>1080, so they should call it 1080P+ or something like that :p

EDIT: There are more errors...

W2420P - 24", 1920 x 1200 resolution, 5ms G2G response time, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 400 cd/m2 brightness, 178/178 viewing angles. This model comes in a silver finish. Interestingly this appears to be the first 1080p IPS based 22" model in the market

Reading the orignal German text now..

I like the sound of that 22". Hopefully that 300nits backlight signifies sRGB gamut.

The LED-backlit one sounds like the HP Dreamcolor, with a price tag to match.

I can confirm that the W2420P is a standard gamut IPS monitor, thanks to this kind response from LG Germany:

Dear Ben,

72%

Subject: W2420P gamut information

Dear Mr. Seib,

Does the W2420P use an sRGB (72% NTSC) or an Adobe RGB (92%+ NTSC)
backlight?

Thanks,
Ben

Now it just needs to be released in NA for ~$500 USD and I'll probably be in for one or two... I just wish the W2420P was black like my L246WP :(

Affordable IPS? Is there a blizzard going on in hell right now? Here's hoping the cheaper ones make it to the States.

I'd be more worried about Australia... we don't get some of the higher end monitors that the U.S receives.

Yes, in Europe we get ripped off and B): That 400 euros is probably inclusive the 19% sales tax common in a lot of European countries, so €370-400 inclusive tax becomes just around $400-430 without tax.

Cheap, IPS, AND standard gamut. This is getting better and better.

What's E-IPS? They need to stop coming up with new variants. I can't keep up!

I read that E-IPS lets more light through the panel (ie, more "E"fficient light transmission). Apparently IPS monitors have been more expensive in part because they require a brighter back light unit (BLU). But that's just what I read.

The W2420P looks like a bigger NEC 20WMGX2-BK.

I didn't read about the finish on the screen whether if it's glossy or matte.

This pic of the new LG looks suspiciously glossy. It has that deep black appearance that glossy lcds have when turned off.

But they probably won't.

Just like the Sony Ericson is only available in silver at the providers in my country while 2/3 prefer the black one.

So far it seems great. 24", IPS, good number of inputs, adjustable stand, standard color gamut, affordable price. Low input lag and it'll be a winner.

If the Overdrive is controlled correctly, 6 ms on IPS panels is fine for most gamers.

A discussion about response time? Welcome to 2003!

When it comes to skill-based first-person shooters, I understand that input lag should be your concern. If I were proficient and active enough to care, I would incline toward the inexpensive Dell P992 eyed in the local paper.

Gamer, Gaming... What unpleasant words.

If the 2209WA from Dell is any indication of the newer eIPS panels in these monitors, then it should be good for gaming.

But anyways, response time is a lie and there are 2ms monitors worse than 5 or 6ms monitors so take the number with a grain of salt.

I would take the pictures with a grain of salt. The monitor below is actually matte for example:

this will definitely have a mate screen. click

I talked to LG support here in Romania and they told me that this monitor will be available from june, not july. this is getting better and better. I wish they would have a version with black casing though.
