My friend had his laptop stolen last week and wants to buy another one for ~$600. Other than surfing the web he uses mainly MS office and MATLAB to do some image processing and number crunching; no gaming.
I don't really keep up with laptops. He needs at least 4 GB's of ram (more would be nice). It seems some core i5 based systems can be had for around $650, but I don't know about the quality of the screens. Any suggestions?
If I convince him to wait a couple of weeks is there any chance SB notebooks will surface?
