LAN port speed query

I haven't seen a cat 5 (not 5e) cable since the late 90's/early 2000's. Someone dug deep into the IT parts closet to pull that out for you.
 
I have some cat5's patch cables from older routers around. Cat5 works for gigabit if the lengths are short enough.

That's kind of what I was thinking- I'm betting that it's just a bad cable for one reason or another.
 
Phew, everything is sorted out now.

The speed I am getting is 280 Mbps. I replaced the older wire with a new CAT 6 cable.
