Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Ok, so I hope that this is the right place to ask this; I tried searching for another thread and didn't find one. I have a question about performance. I know that my system isn't current or top of the line, but it should be able to handle this game with decent framerates at ultra settings. It does quite well, anywhere from 40-75 fps, depending on the scene, of course. My issue is that at times neither my CPU or GPU are being completely utilized and at those times I am getting my lowest fps, of course. See the screenshot below as an example; CPU around 65-70% total utilization, GPU at 79% utilization, FPS at 42. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance to all.

There are times when the GPU is at 98-100% utilization, but oddly it's mostly when there is a large amount of vegetation in the scene and not much else. I haven't seen the CPU utilization go above 80% on all cores at any point in time so far, so I don't think it's a CPU bottleneck issue. Settings are at ultra with HD textures on. System specs below:

CPU - i7 4770 at stock speeds, 3.4Ghz
CPU cooler - Thermaltake 212 Evo; recently installed with new thermal paste application, CPU is not thermal throttling
GPU - Zotac GTX 1070 Ti mini 8gb
RAM - 32gb G.Skill PC3-12800 1600mhz DDR3
DIsk drives - OS installed on 128gb Samsung SSD, Steam games installed on separate 2TB WD black drives, 3 installed in this PC
PSU - Antec Truepower Quattro 850w 80 plus bronze; older PSU but has been rock solid for it's entire lifetime and the current draw isn't anywhere close to it's rated maximum

If this question should be asked elsewhere then please let me know I will delete this. I am hoping that this is an issue that can be corrected, but at this point it seems as though it may be a game optimization issue that I have no control over.

You could turn down the volumetric setting.

Also turning off the FPS counter helps out a ton.

Overall CPU use isnt the best measure.
Each core can saturate individually and in a multi core aware game, depending on the process running on that core, its load may not be transferrable to another core.
Its not easy to see if an individual core is maxing out these days because the OS also moves the load around and doesnt give readings that are true to the load (use of the processor that a process sees).
ie you may see 2 cores one at 69% load, the other at 31% load. This could easily be a single core at 100%.

If the GPU isnt being maxed out its most likely your CPU is the bottleneck.

You can test this.
Drop your CPU core clocks 10% and see if the framerate drops near 10%.
If it drops a lot less, its likely you are not CPU limited or maybe just a little.
If it drops well over 5% you are likely very CPU limited.

Thanks for the replies guys. It does sound like I am CPU limited, and after doing some more research I have seen that newer generation CPU's than the one I am currently using are causing limitations, not to mention I am just running my chip at stock speeds, so I think it's likely to conclude that is the issue. I will have to be content with turning down the graphical settings for now and seriously consider an upgrade in the near future. Appreciate the help.

If I drop the clocks on my IB I get slowdowns like that. If you can, OC the cpu and ram. 1600 is a bottleneck.

I picked up the new DLC. It's good for some lulz, but not groundbreaking. Worth 10 bucks to a good dev.

There's a trigger bug on the Charlatan questline and WH is working on a hotfix. To anyone who has played through the tournament quest, do you have to win the whole shebang to trigger the final meetup and progress the quest?

I am enjoying the hell out of the game,120+ hours and I have it running great, modded up.Runs like shit on Ultra with no mods. For the $10USD I paid it is a bargain all day long.

Yep...I just finished and absolutely loved it...made me laugh out loud in several spots and even made me tear up at the end. Fantastic game.

I voted this game for Game of the Year on Steam for every category even though I had it's ups and downs with the game mainly those quests where you get stuck.

Picked this up, also looking for a good mod list

I put together a few mods over at nexus along with 50 different reshades. Check them out,I also run the game now without those frigging stutters and things now.
With the mod I removed Optimized Graphic Presets part and I am using a user.cfg with better shadows and FPS.No need to for user.cfg with the actual mod,I just prefer it that way.

Has anyone done a Hardcore playthrough? I was thinking about it but ended up starting a new game on normal mode but am considering switching to Hardcore before I invest too much time into this playthrough (currently around 20 hours in). Kind of wishing I did Hardcore to begin with since the game feels relatively easy on a 2nd playthrough. Is it worth restarting after 20 hours for more difficulty?

where the hell did you get it for ten bux?

I'm getting very bad perfomance in this game even with the latest patches. GTX 1080.

I'm getting very bad perfomance in this game even with the latest patches. GTX 1080.

What resolution and settings are you using?

I know a few options that are recommended to be on medium or high since they are very demanding and ment for future hardware such as "Shaders, Shadows, and Physics" The only setting I actually run at Ultra is Textures I believe. I think my lowest setting is Shaders, running at Medium, everything else is High/Very High.

KCD got nominated for Game of the Year category on Steam don't think the voting is over until End of the Year.

You can find real cheap games on the web in places like MTCGame maybe the best places I found, search for a game ,it will list all the countries with various prices.Use VPN from that country and buy game.

For Kingdom come I paid $10.22USD /$389.99ARS/$13.09CAD
I bought the game thru Steam Argentina.I have various steam accounts for different Countries.

Look at post #778 there is a performance mod ,should double FPS with better than ultra settings,or if you just want a user.cfg for a GTX 1080 for better shadows and FPS try this.

I just messed up my wording, too lazy to change it.

Both Global illumination and ultra setting are running with SMAA T2x in the gifs.

I got it in the sale

2 hours in, mostly cut scenes, right on the limit of returnability now, not sure what I'm going to do, the combat seemed really wonky compared to, say, M&B

Now that looks it might have something going for it. The DLC up to this point really hasn't made my tail twitch.

Overall: Fantastic game.

It really does take some getting used to. 2 hours for me was barely scratching the surface.

Take some time to read around about tweaks, console codes, and certain adjustments shy of outright cheating (this is up to you of course) but quality of life adjustments and tweaks can be had in this. Even consider looking over Nexus Mods for this game.

Be patient! It's worth it. Give yourself a chance. Give the game a chance. Make sure you have all tutorial and handholding options on in the early goings and consider easiest difficulty at least until you hit your stride.

I had the same issues 2 hours in, but gambled and kept playing. Around 10 hours in I pretty much regretted keeping the game but trudged along on principal. Wound up giving up after ~15 hours. I'll list my gripes, but if you're a fan of the game, I hope you already stopped reading:

-Combat is bland. Feels like Skyrim and Mount and Blade had a child. I hate both of those games melee combat, so naturally I hated this games combat. it wasn't hard or anything...just cumbersome and uninspiring, a slightly advanced rock paper scissors. The AI obviously cheats too.
-Graphics are pretty ok. Some textures are horrendous up close. I wouldn't say it's much better than Skyrim. Games like Read Dead 2, Ass Creed, even Doom are way better in graphics department.
-Annoying terrain glitches with shrubs and small trees. I once lost 40 minutes of gameplay because my horse got stuck in a fucking bush.
-Save system is unacceptable in 2018.
-Gloves were my main source of revenue, very lame.
-Stupid perk system, I skipped a lot of perks because they were just so pointless.
-Main character is a complete doofus
-You can't change the main character's appearance
-Musical score will put you to sleep. Some of the games cut scenes are ruined because they chose the most uninspiring music for the background.
-Hunting is a cheap mini game, the deer move like moronic robots. I have done archery a few times in my life and my hand never swayed as much as the game does, it's like your character is perpetually drunk while aiming a bow
-Horseback riding is complete trash compared to Read Dead 2.

.

Is funny because if you actually level it up a little archery is so OP its crazy. I could take down entire forts solo with just a shitty bow and take no damage.

I tried to get into this game twice, just couldn't do it. I felt like I was playing an open beta, with the environment looking great but other aspects of the game falling short such as combat and conversations, not to mention the Oblivion-like inventory and skills menus. It reminded me of the first time I tried to play Prey2017 and only made it 5hrs and said fuck this shit. The second time I tried playing Prey I made it past the 10hr mark where the game truly starts to open up and beat it. I had heard the same thing goes for KC, so I made myself play it again and felt like I should of been getting paid to play it, because by the time I made it to the 8hr mark, it felt like straight up chore to me and I uninstalled it again.

I guess this is one of those you either love it or hate it type of games.
Who knows, I might give it another go a few years from now.
