Kingdom Come Deliverance 2

How do we define "small" these days? Because the 4,000 people employed by Ubisoft Montréal is the exception even in the AAA space, not the norm. Warhorse Studios employs 250. For comparison, id Software employs around 350.
In this context I had people that tend to use an external engine instead of their own (unlike an ubisoft, Rockstar, EA, etc...) and decide not to go with Unreal. i.e. smaller than more than small.

Not that good of a metric considering cannot be called small in any way project like Witcher 4 shifted toward Unreal...

I definitely miss the proliferation of different engines. Sure, each had its limitations but also, each had its own "flavor" or charm and it was interesting to see the various implementations and ways devs stretched the limits (or not) of those engines...often either achieving impressive or hilariously broken results. It was at least vastly more interesting than what seems like 90% of games using UE.

There are plenty of great games still using Unity, and I can often identify them because they don't have the usual UE look.

Anyway.

"And guys, THAT is why this game is the best RPG that I've ever played. It allows you to do whatever you want. You see, coming back to the woke stuff: Henry, by default, isn't gay. You have to literally go out of your way to make him gay. And also, Henry, by default, isn't a psychopathic, murdering, whoring bastard -- I just turned him into that. That's what an RPG is. And KCD2 allows you to be whatever the hell you want to be."

Also guys, there are melons in this game, though not the same as the ones in AssCreed Shadows

And Mack again fails to understand the complaint that had him freaking out during a live stream the other week on this. They changed his character from the first game. They went from, you're playing as Henry with the ability to make some decisions but fundamentally the character is a straight man and Christian. A man of his time as it were. That was a big selling point of the game seven years ago, that the lead dev got into trouble for and made a big deal about it online. The dev had to explain why there were no "people of color" in 1400s Bohemia. Oh, and they toss in a Malian Muslim man who apparently gives out lectures on the greatness of his culture. If the devs knew their history, making it a Turk or Arabian might make sense. A Malian from the southern Sahara does not and given that Mali made most of its gold in slave trading for centuries, makes it all the more amusing. So, sorry Mack, putting that stuff in the game, somewhat hidden or otherwise makes it "woke". Mack even says in one of his previews that the game is a Christian one. Why throw these options and characters into the story?

Guess I'll have to watch some reviews or live streams to see what the scenes actually are.

I've been saying it for years...why don't more developers use CryEngine??...why do all developers have a hard on for Unreal Engine? (I realize it's easy to use)...I miss the days of AAA games using everything from Source to CryEngine to id Tech to Snowdrop etc

KCD2 even has an Experimental Graphics preset...Experimental option is "intended for highly efficient and future hardware"
Apparently it's hard to learn, it's also not an industry standard. Switching engines as a developer isn't an easy task, particularly while you're already working 40-60 hours a week. It's probably a lot harder to get a game dev job as a crytek dev as well. Unity is lucky it has the community it does around it, it's really the only competition and it's because it's the defacto mobile game engine. They have done a decent job catching up to unreal for more advanced graphics, but they still have a way to go (unity 7 might bridge the gap a bit more).

Also Unreal 5 is free the first million in sales, CryEngine for the first 5K, combined with their relative popularity (and active involvement) in schools, the programmer base that worked on unreal must be massive versus cryteck.
Sale via the epic store do not count in your reality revenues is more enticing than sales made on the cryengine marketplace (if it still exist)

Cheaper always help.

Warhorse Studio’s “Witcher 3.”

It might be. I hope so.

I’m looking forward to it. I really liked the first one.

I'm shocked there are no performance issues or #stutterstruggle...this must be the single biggest leap in performance from one game to the next

After looking at some at the trailers and pics I have to say this game is truly a work of art. From the country side vistas, the facial expressions, the soundtrack its easy to see a great deal of effort went into this game. I had a blast playing the first one and can't wait to play this. Its been a long time since I felt like taking a few days off work to play a game.

Eurogamer gave it a 3/5 just like they did with Black Myth Wukong, so this game must be amazing.

I took off work next week to start playing KCD2, too busy to start playing this week, but maybe this weekend.
Probably docked it a star because they couldn't detect progressive messaging
Game looks really good

That sounds very promising, but I hope there will be some way to alleviate the pop in that plagues the Cryengine. Just like you could with the Gamebryo/Creation engine, even if it took a powerful PC and a bit of luck to get it stable.

I'm not sure when the game launches should be preloaded after work. I bought the Steam version even though I could of went the CD keys route I would of been downloading on my day off all day

Walmart gave me off the 16th first day off in years that isn't PTO runs inline with Avowed launch. I wonder if Walmart is bracing for tarriffs I know they are.

Nice! Lucky me, work 4 10's so looking forward to Saturday.

This launch snuck up on me. Given that this was built upon the trials and tribulations of the first game, I've always figured this would end up fairly polished. Reviews from actual gamers seem positive. I'll give it a shot sometime this week.

I sense that you like games with "King" in the name.
King's Bounty is a good series, for the most part. I've heard good things about King Arthur. The developers of that series went on to make The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing and Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr. With that poster posting nothing but pictures of the games he buys I'm surprised he doesn't have the newest King Arthur game that came out a couple years ago.

It's UP!!

LOL This game is so realistic I can't even absorb it. I might have to sleep on it big upgrade from the 1st game start up with a Crossbow.
War Crys in the backgrounds sound about as realistic as a Soundblaster Audigy card but I'm just using Realtek MB sound and my Edifiers.

Was announced to be a day 1 release on geforce now, so I was tempted to see if there was a cheap 1 week trial on those, all sold out in my market...

Lack of GPU is even hitting Nvidia themselve ;)

Unreal Engine is a piece of shit.
He say there is not a single massive open world game on it yet...

Stalker 2 ? I thought, but considering the performance issue with a relatively bare world could be proving his points.

It was an interview from February last year while the game was still in development. At that time there really were not any open-world games on UE5. I think that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is the first actual open-world game released that runs on UE5 and it's all kinds of janky.

Yes, and I hate that everything is using it.

It also speaks volume that Assetto Corsa went with their own engine, then Unreal and now back to their own engine.

Didn't work out I suppose. Must be pretty bad if it's worth rolling an entire engine.

I'd give it a shot but I'm terrible at sword fighting systems. From what I've read, they're striving for realism. Realism is 9-5 job, paying taxes. Sometimes, I just want escapism.

Is there an easy setting for people bad at learning these melee systems?

I'm curious if the combat has been improved using a keyboard / mouse combo. I never was able to do any combo attacks and struggled with the swordplay using the mouse on the first one. Combat was much more accessible with a gamepad, but I don't like playing FPS game with a controller. Would be great if there are some improvements made in this regard to make it a bit more accessible. I loved the first game, and it is on my Top 5 of all time fav game lists. Just so damn immersive! I need to do the Hans Capon DLC before diving into the second one though. Have fun with the second one folks! Looks like Warhorse delivered and then some!

1st game don't have much for Shadows you had blasted bright areas dark wooded area then pitch black nights. Then again I played it in in a LCD and not a OLED.

For anyone using a widescreen monitor, I haven’t tested this yet on KCD2 but this should work:

Set your horizontal FoV in the game settings to 100, Then open the in-game console using the tilde key (`) and type cl_fov 90, which might get you a better result than default.

I haven’t launched the game myself yet.

I got this downloading. Preordered through CDkeys and saved about $20. I can't wait. I liked the first one and somehow played through it on a PS4 Pro. My 4090 is ready for this one lol.

has the combat been streamlined in KCD2?...in the first game it felt very tedious to build up your character

Ugh, crappy hotel internet x[

Have 35gb left to go and it looks like it's going to unpack the 43gb already downloaded before it gets to it. Hope I can play tonight! Have been in need of a real RPG for quite some time.
