For those curious minds here are some numbers I took from 4 systems.

Rig #1 - Q6600 @ 3GHz, 3x 9800GT, 4GB Ram, 1TB HD, TX750PSU, 3 Fans
480 Watts @ 100% load. 24" LCD 1920x1080 another 42 watts.

Rig #2 - Q6600 @ 2.4GHz, 1xGTX260/216, 2GB Ram, 500GB HD, EA380, 1 Fan
270 Watts @ 100% load, 19" LCD 1280x1024 another 30 watts.

Rig #3 - Q6600 @ 2.7GHz, 1x 8800GT, 2GB Ram, 80GB HD, EA380, 1 Fan
285 Watts @ 100% load. This is a little high cuz my dsl modem was also in there.

Rig #4 - E6420 @ 2.13GHz, 1x 8800GT, 2GB Ram, 2x 500GB, EA380, 1 Fan
210 Watts @ 100% load. 24" 1920x1200 LCD another 60 watts.

Total folding electricity cost approximately $104/mo.
45500 ppd

Random notes:
-88/98GT adds 45-50 watts going from idle to 100% load
-260/216 adds 81 watts going from idle to 100% load
-Q6600 VM adds 70 watts going from idle to 100% load
-E6420 VM adds 35 watts foing from idle to 100% load
-PC Speakers w/sub = 7-30 watts depending on volume
-Desk Fan = 25 watts
-Single core laptop at idle = 28 watts
-Lamp w/60 watt CFL equivalent bulb = 16 watts
-Wife's curling iron 88 watts
-Wife's hair dryer 1750 watts
-42" 1080P TV 185 watts
-55" 1080P TV 250 watts
-PS3 Folding 170 watts

I'll have to put mine up later, I just got it out last night

What kind of PpD are you seeing from this configuration and which client are you running on the CPU?

I was getting ~175 watts drawn by my Q6600's @3.1Ghz with 2x 2Gb ram, 80Gb hard drive and 3x case fans.
Plus each vid card was adding ~100 watts per 9800 GPU core.

Now I'm getting ~370 watts drawn by my 920's @3.6Ghz with 6x 2Gb ram, 80Gb hard drive and 4x case fams.

My Skulltrail pulls ~400 watts with the E5355's @3.4Ghz, 4x 2Gb ram, 3x raptors and 8x case fans.

Luck ............ :D

im pulling about about 650-700w from the wall to the surge protector with 1 lamp, 2 monitors, generic 2.1 speakers, phenom II x4 940 @ 3.4ghz 1.465v, 6 HDD's, GTX 260 216 @ 675/1458/1150.. monitors are 100w 245bw, 70w 931BF,

Well, just fir shits and giggles, skynet (in testing) with 1 CPU and 2 sticks of ram, 1 hdd and 1 cd drive idles at 100 from the wall

Just tossin that out there

not bad at all.. gives you an idea of what it would use with all 4 cpu's and then all 8..

250-300 idle with 8 sticks and 4 CPUs, but I'm having memory errors so it might not all be powering

You're welcome. Just glad to have some info to offer that might be helpful, Tobit. All this got me to thinking about a strategy to rework the farm and lower the electric bill without losing points...maybe even gain some in the true way of the [H]! I have a lot of Q6600's and obviously the i7/bigadv is where it's at now. This is another turning point in CPU folding. We must turn with it eventually or get left behind. Just 4 months ago, 45Kppd would put you around 11th-14th in ppd. Right now, I'm 19th and bigadv is why...but it's all good because we nerds need new stuff to keep us interested so we can buy MOAR D! I may sell off a Q6600/mobo/RAM or the whole computer if someone wants it. I can't keep adding systems but I can make the ones I have more efficient. Fold on Brothers!

Eh, don't feel left out, not all of the top 20 have bigadv running ;)

My rigs pulls about 530w with both gpus at full load, cpu not folding. There's also the router and switch on that reading, but I don't figure they use much. 390w with gpus idle so 140w for both gpus loading up. These are on 1888 pointers though so it may be why there isn't such a shift in power usage (70w vs wesley's 81w)

Thats why I've upgraded my C2Q's to i7's.

By dropping my dual Xeon boxen and running 5x 920's in place of the Q6600's.
And keeping my Skulltrails as it is.
I may need to drop a few vid cards to keep the power draw the same at ~3.5 kWh.
So my power useage stays to same but my PpD will skyrocket.

Power before .....
5x 175 ( Q6600's) + 2x 400 (Xeons) +17x 100 ( GPU's) = ~3,400 watts.
Power after .........
5x 370 ( 920's) + 1x 400 (Xeons) + 12x 100 ( GPU's) = ~3,400 watts.

Points before .....
5x 4.8 + 2x 4.5 + 17x 6 = ~135k PpD.
Points after .....
5x 21 + 23 + 12x 6 = ~200k PpD.

Its around a 50% PpD gain for around the same power drawn ........ :D

Luck ........... :D

Tiger - I see you went with 920's instead of 860's. I have been leaning toward the 860 path for reduced power consumption. Why did you go 920 instead? for more RAM...upgrade path?

A picture is worth a thousand words ;)

On the left running VM -bigadv with 3 GPU clients under Win7 64 (dedicated)

On the right running two GPU clients and two x86 clients Win7 64 (working/gaming pc)

Upgrade path to 6 cores.
Plus I heard stories on the socket 1155 taking damage at high overclocks.
As you need a high overclock to maximize the PpD on bigadv, I played safe.

Luck ............ :D

I just thought I would add this info to help people with reference :)...

I don't have my kill-a-watt plugged in anymore, but my new UPS shows an average of 600-700 watts (depending on work units) with:
23" Monitor
[email protected]
2 Nvidia GTX 260s w/ shaders @ 1600Mhz
5 hard drives
3 fans

I had some trouble the other week with the power going out due to a flash flood in south florida, and lost 3 bigadv units- my car was even half full of water...ugh :(...

...so I bought a new UPS because my old one was shot...Hopefully I'll be back on the top producers list within a week or two :)

Fold on,
Alex

your Wife hair dryer is equal to 1 high end computer or 3 low end desktops lol. Luckily, It cannot do folding J/K

In the last 2 days, I've used 157 kWh.
That means I'm running at 3.27 kWh.
That puts me over the 60 PpDpWatt I was hopeing for.

Also as I'm under my 3.5 kWh limit, I could reinstall one of my 9800GX2's.
Another 10-12k PpD to the farm.
And that would get me bang on 3.5 kWh.

Luck ........ :D

Tiger - What do you pay for electricity? At my average rate of $0.113 per Kw that would be about $285/mo or $3,417/yr just for the farm. Add in the cost for hardware, and it's obvious the commitment it takes to be at/near the top in ppd. To put it in perspective you could drive a NICE car for that kind of money. There are other very expensive hobbies, such as my drag racing habit, so it's all what you want to do and I applaud your dedication.

I'm in the UK so I pay in £'s but it £0.088 per kWh.

Luck .......... :D

I'm lucky that all my CPU clients are at work, and my apartment has electricity included in the rent. I should open up a co-lo in my storage closet. :D

Its amazing when you finally realize how bid tigers dedication really is

Here's one of my folding rigs:

Athlon II 620 @ 3ghz running linux VM, 4 GB DDR2, 40gb sata HD, 4x 8800GT at full load 630 watts

Average about 23K ppd
