Here lately I've been eager to build a new pc, but the problem is that I have nowhere higher to go. I'm not read to give up my C2Q 4ghz and GTX 480 yet. Since I can't go any higher, I've started to go lower. I've been compiling some parts together in order to build a set of retro systems that represent milestones in PC gaming tech.

I just recently acquired from Amazon and Ebay...

Geforce 2 Ultra 64mb
Geforce 4 TI 4200 128mb (the AGP 8x version without the gimped RAM speed)
Geforce 4 TI 4600 128mb
Geforce FX 5950 Ultra 256mb
Radeon HD 3850 AGP 512mb

...to add to the 8800 Ultra, Radeon 9800 Pro, 9700 Pro, Voodoo 5's, Voodoo 3's, and Voodoo Rush that I already own.
I've always wanted to own the flagship cards from every family of gpu from Nvidia and ATI. Now that I've started collecting them, I'm trying to build period systems to put them in.

I already have a couple of Athlon and Athlon XP builds that will be home to the earlier Geforce cards and the Voodoo cards. The 3850 is going to go into my old Athlon XP 3200+ build (just to see how far I can push an 8 year old pc) until I get something together that's a little more appropriate (Pentium 4 HT or early Athlon 64 939 build), at which point the 5950 Ultra will go into the 3200+ system.

I'm kinda leaning more toward a Pentium 4 build since all I have are AMD based systems and I'd like to build a period Intel system. I'll probably see what I can get in a socket 478 flavor and go from there.

I have a socket AM2 motherboard laying around (I don't know if it's any good or not) and I eventually want to do an Athlon x2 build and throw a 6800 Ultra or something in it.)

I have two systems that are already complete and represent early to late 90's gaming.

Gateway2000 P5-66:

Intel Overdrive Pentium Socket 4 133mhz 5v, a rare cpu I've read
32mb EDO SIMMs
1.2gb Seagate + 1.6gb WD hard drives
Voodoo Rush 4mb 3d accelerator
32x CD-Rom drive
3 1/2" + 5 1/4" floppy combo drive
Colorado 250mb tape backup drive
Windows 95A + Microsoft Plus!
Loaded with DOS games and very early 3d games

Custom Build AMD System:

AMD K6-II 500mhz
256mb PC-100
Voodoo 3 3000 16mb
8gb Seagate
Windows 98SE + KernelEx (to enable newer applications to run on Win98 kernel)
Loaded with early 3d accelerated games

If anybody knows where I can get some cheap P4's (something that would have been faster than an Athlon XP 3200+) and a decent 478 motherboard then let me know.
