First thing I did was run 3DMark2001SE to see what kind of score I get. Well the card seems to make my PC speaker beep every 20-30 seconds while the test runs. Seems like every time it beeps the fan speeds up on the card. I suspect it is an alarm or something but I couldnt find any settings for temp or fan speed in the catalyst 5.8 (non ccc) drivers. So i downloaded ATI Tool and its telling me my card is running at around 95 degrees C!!!

That sounds awfully hot to me, I actually reached inside my case and touched the metal plate on the back of my card and I nearly burned my finger!!

so my question is, is this normal? I get the felling my card is abnormally hot. the air blowing out the back of the card feels like a furnace!

I doubt any card could benchmark without severe artifacts at 95*C, even an X850XT.

More than likely the stock heatsink is seated wrong, hell, maybe they forgot a thermal pad. As for the beeping I really can't help you there, I'd be more concerned about the temp though.

its a sapphire X850XT, i said XL in the title at first by mistake.

And i think the beeping is some sort of warning that the GPU is too damn hot. I guess i should pull the card out and take a closer look at how the stock cooler is connected to the card. It must make pretty good contact though because its burning hot. I could fry eggs on the damn thing. :(

Maybe getting more metal on that GPU could help you out, especially if you use this underneath it:

yeah but before i tear this card apart and void my warranty, i'd like it to work the way its supposed to in stock conditions. I also noticed that this card seems to be making a really high pitched whining noise. When i first boot i cant hear it, but once the desktop loads in windows xp it starts.

X850XT's run hot, but your temps are too damn hot, I had a similar issue with mine. By reseating the stock heatink I was able to get the temps under control (68c under load with the stock heatsink). Then the fan noise you were talking about was driving me crazy so I put a Zalman VF700cu on it. Now getting 55-58c under load, and the card is blissfully quiet.
