jpg corruption problem

My friend has this problem with all the JPG image files on his computer. What happens is after a while all his JPG files have a description of VBscript files and are 11.6kb in size. That being said, all the files still have a JPG extension, any ideas?
 
My guess is he has a variant of the Loveletter.vbs worm. It replaces .jpg files as .jpg.vbs files. Are .mp3s affected too?

To my knowledge he has run a virus scan lately and it turned up nothing. I will give my friend some advice on how to proceed from here, thank you muchly. First time I have ever seen this happen.
Yes, mp3s are also affected.
