Remember when huge yachts were the cool thing for billionaires to have? Well, it seems you aren't cool anymore unless you have your own rocket and a launch pad.

Bezos’ space startup, Blue Origin, intends to invest more than $200 million to build a rocket manufacturing facility adjacent to NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, state officials said. The rockets will fly from a refurbished launchpad at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, located just south of the NASA spaceport.

First Elon Musk and SpaceX, now Jeff Bezos and BlueOrigin.

Is Bill Gates, Donald Trump or some other billionaire going to fully suit?

It seem this is the trend for the upper 1% to spend money since we stopped caring about the cars they ride, planes they fly and boats they're on.

Now we'll they want us to envy the ships they fly in space.

since drone delivery didn't pan out, Amazon Prime will now deliver using suborbital rockets for same-day shipping anywhere on Earth.

For what reason? It just says it's to compete with SpaceX and be a commercial enterprise.

What is that? A Winnebago?

So now all the billionaires are building rockets...when are we getting our first evil mad genius holding the world hostage?

So like where is the money in this? Commercial money is from contracts to launch satellites, payloads to nasa, tourism is a bit of a stretch. It's like saying deep sea tourism is a real money maker.

yes it does seem like a bit of a money pit , maybe he's planning on becoming a super villain like Hugo Drax.

Trickle down economics at last? I dont care what rich people spend their money on, just spend it! We give them all these tax breaks and they just horde all their money indefinitely. If a newfound interest in rockets and space travel spurs from the civilian sector than maybe a company will come along to address that, and thus new business is drummed up.

I know an engineer at Blue Origin, we interned together at SpaceX. I was interested their rocket dev team and called him to get the scoop. He told me to stay the hell away since I have a family. The work environment there is way more toxic than he had ever experienced at SpaceX, which is ridiculous because everyone is worked to the bone at SpaceX. He's trying as hard as he can to get the hell out as I type this.

So this is what rich psycho assholes do for kicks, because giant yacht's is so 20th century.

Looks to me like they need to be paying one FUCK LOAD more in taxes .... that way NASA could afford to be doing what they are supposed to be doing, and the assholes can go fuck themselves.

But that's just me. :rolleyes::eek::confused:

...You do realize that NASA has been contracting this stuff out since before SpaceX and Blue Origin right? Who the hell do you think designed and built the space shuttles and it's lift system? Same goes for the Apollo missions. NASA sets the requirements and does validation, private companies propose, design, and build the spacecraft.

Jealous much?

By the way, good luck implementing your huge tax increase. People don't seem to realize that a billionaire doesn't have to live in the US if they don't want to. A nice chalet in Switzerland would sound pretty good to me!
