holy crap!

has anyone seen this?
http://www.gigapxl.org/

check out some of the images in the image gallery!

they wont release the fullsize ones.....but i dont blame em...since they quoted a full size 16-bit uncompresed image is 24 gigs...............

and i get aggrevated working with 7 MB files in PS!

I'm not sure if we talked about this particular project in the last thread, but this link has definitely made the rounds. As I recall, there is a lot more technical detail available at the other project. Pretty damn cool, in any case!

To bad he is not releasing any good sizes, they would make great backgrounds on dual monitors....

63.8 Megapixels.

This is the largest I have done myself. And it was shot in crappy weather - I had no choice due to time constraints for the assignment I was actually covering. I used my 85mm lens. I have the same web interface as TNO TPD so you can zoom in 100% without wasting bandwidth on areas you don't care about.

I'm hoping to make a 300 Megapixel image of the same area with a 70-200mm lens after I get one and the weather improves (I need a rain storm followed by nice sunny skies). Unfortunately that just means objects will about double in height and width. Not quite as large as one would hope.

I also have a night-time panorama (35.8 Megapixels). This one is a little bit old. I also stupidly stopped the lens down and the apeture diaphram created some diffraction effects. I have an updated version but with only 2GB of disk space left of my 240GB, I'm having a tough time taking more pictures and processing old ones without filling it up. (My 768MB of RAM isn't helpful either) :(

Those are two totaly different projects that you guys posted. The gigapixel project is just ONE camera that takes a gigapixel image. The other project is a D1X that takes many photos and stiches them together.

the gigapxl project actually takes 4 gigapixel images (meaning 4000 megapixels)........not 1(1000 megapixels)....

just thought id clear that up
