Does it bother anyone else that Sony restarted the PSN in the U.S. but it has been blocked in Japan for not showing more information on its new security measures? You'd think scrutiny here would be 10x great now, not easier.

Sony needs to start doing something, they are no doubt losing a lot of customers from this.

I actually think our govt. doesn't care... I'm sure their thinking is if Sony doesn't protect it's customers, then they will get sued..

That's assuming our govt. has anyone below the age of 60 that actually knows what the PSN network is... which is doubtful.

No, it's more of a case of whiners who would say that it's another sign of the 'nanny state' and Obama can't leave businesses alone. People are all for protection, until it inconveniences them.

Sony - and all companies that insist on unique RL biographical information that has no credible connection to the business at hand (like your birthday, for instance) - need to be made legally/financially liable for the loss of any data they insisted on collecting. This will greatly inspire their protection efforts or - even better - dissuade them from asking for information they really don't need (but like to gather for their marketing department).

But you cannot do anything on the PSN network, besides update the firmware, reset the password, and access Netflix, the PSN store is unavailable, so there is no problem with security right now, as there is nothing of monetary gain going on.

You mean the fark-up that was caused by a splinter group of Anon, you know you can play GT5 without the PSN network right, as well as every other game for the PS3 that doesn't rely on the network?

That's a farce of an argument, since when has anyone being critical of Obama stopped him from doing anything he wanted to do. . . . also what does Obama have to do with congressional hearings or committee groups, which would have more to do with PSN not being allowed to come back online!? Also why should "protection" be an inconvenience, also what does convenience have to do with a company keeping it's software up to date and employing basic levels of security to protect it's customers and their personal information, and ensuring they are properly notified of any threats to these things in a timely and succinct manner ?

Seriously please explain, as your statement is neither here nor there and really not applicable to the discussion at hand.

I expect PSN to get hacked again. Who ever did it wanted to do real damage, I doubt they are happy enough to stand down.

First rule of Business : Keep customers happy (means sony don't screw arround with people who hack PS3, yes it's against the law and you'll loose $$ but it won't be more than what you are loosing now due to downtimes.)

It was already starting. Look at the first posts talking about faith in government and how it does not care. As far as your other bull, if that was so then why does most of the threads in soapbox equates similar arguments in other areas as his administrations fault?

The government stepping in to business, even if it's just to make sure that its doing what it said its done is largely seen by Republicans and Libertarians as a socialist event, and I have no doubt that if any part of the government even mentioned wanting to have a hearing or verification before turning it back on would have made this thread a "Change you can believe in!" wank fest simply because it's keeping them from playing their game online.

lol there are countless times people pull the "Blame Obama" card on issues that he has nothing directly to do with on this forum. Go pick a bone with them too.

This really highlights how Japan has become the America of the 1940s and America has become the Japan of the 1940s.

    It's freaky friday!

I honestly cannot believe it has taken them SO long to do - practically - nothing. IMHO this should have been fixed within 72 hours.
